I havent read the other comments but you said you had others like it. Also you said if you reblued it, you would make it a safe queen.
First it sounds like you already have better ones, and secound, to me if reblued I wouldnt exactly call it a safe queen. Sounds like there is no point in spending a couple hundred in just lowering the value. Therefore, why not sell it for the $500, add the $200 you were going to spend to reblue it and go shopping with $700?

I would also have it hard chromed... if I was paying for a refinish I don't see rebluing something. If ya use it the hardchrome holds up so well.

I agree.

And I'll put my money where my mouth is. Sell me the gun and its off for a re-blue the next day!

I was in the same boat as you but with a M-28 I bought off the net that wasn't in near the shape I was led to believe. I only had about $320 in it so I didn't get a bad deal I just like 95%+ guns. With an additional $250 to reblue it, I recently sold it for a profit, and am confident I can get a new looking gun for less total money.

I wouldn't do a thing to it.

I love the character of good gun that show it's been used for what it was intended.

I would have it refinished in a high polish as close to factory finish as possible. Maybe that would mean someone other than S & W if they can't do the same high quality job as in earlier years.

They did a good job on mine a few years ago. If in doubt, send it to Ford's. They do fabulous work.

I voted to keep it and don't worry about it. How ever if you do want to get that ugly this down the road I will be kind to you and give you $350 for it

If you do a reblue from S&W, stick with the bead blast finish. Cheapest to do, looks great and wears well. To try and refinish to "original condition" will be $300 or more for a brite master reblue....money you will never see again.

My 29-2 with factory bead blast re-finish and new mountain gun rebarrel (to replace original with rusting bore...the little streaks up by the hammer at the side plate are just oil smears):

I like that! Do you mind telling me what Smith charged you for the work? I have a 4" 29-2 that needs similar attention. PM or e-mail me if you prefer. Thanks.

Toroflow, I'd probably refinish it one way or another and keep it. Then, I'm a sucker for a 4" N-frame.

I say leave it alone I would love to have a model 29 4inch blued hanging around the house.and it is how i like em.

I'm a reblue fan. Had a few redone and if I owned a gun that looked ragged I'd send another one to S&W.

You'd be surprised at how it will be returned.
