Acetone?

I also have a ported 57 -- 8.375" barrel. Got it about a year ago as an opportunity purchase. One of my favorite guns, because I really like long-nose N-frames. Haven't shot it much, though.

Porting

David I no nothing about this gun but the porting looks professional. Do you know who did yours?

That is Magna-port porting on your gun. They are out of Mt Clemons MI. They have been around for a long time.

A bit of acetone and a sharp toothpick will get the gold out. The gold was probably put in using a Bonanza Gold kit which was all the rage 20 years ago. I had a lot of people pay me to do that to their guns...heck if you bought that one around here I may have done it. The process involves mixing the gold powder with an epoxy, wiping it in the lettering, then wiping the excess off after it dries.
You may also try dipping a stiff bristle brush in acetone and scrubbing it out that way. It's pretty easy.

I have that same 57 except for the porting. Mine was unfired when I got it 7 years ago and had that gold treatment. I've left it alone as it's the only gun I own with it but nice to know it can be reversed easy enough.
