I've decided to go with one of 2 MP pistols. One is the Pro Series MP9 with fiber optic front sight and 5 inch barrel or the Performance Center MP9 with ported 5 inch barrel and fiber optic front and rear sight. I can get both for about the same price. They both are advertised to have the "enhanced trigger" along with the other features noted above. This will be a range gun only. I previously have shot a Glock 17 with ported barrel and it was like shooting a 22 rimfire. Being a range gun I'm not concerned about muzzle flash. They seem to be the same pistol except for the ported barrel and the PC gun having both rear and front FO versus just front FO on the other. Thoughts on both these pistols are very much appreciated.

Love my ported pc. It also came with the pictured threaded barrel so I can throw my can on at any time. But if I leave the can at home, I throw in the porter stainless barrel.

I love my PC (Shield model) and can think of only 2 possible cons to the ported barrel.
One being it will get dirty fast; a lot of shooting may require a quick wipe down during a range visit.
The other being some ammo is ok by the manus for use in ported barrels and others have said they do not recommend it (as shown on their packaging).

Neither is a major concern for me just wanted to make note of it.

I have a couple of non-ported 5" pro series . I also have a ported PC shield. IMHO, both the Pro and PC series have equally good triggers and sights that make for great range guns. I doubt that you'd be disappointed with either.
That said, if I had the opportunity to buy the M&P PC version at the same price as a Pro, I would without hesitation. I could easily (and cheaply) swap out the barrel if I ever tired of the ported barrel for any reason. Going the other way is not so simple or cheap.

We have a couple of PC Shields with porting, and a couple of the same non-PC guns. The porting for sure makes cleaning a bit more of a chore as the gun gets much dirtier, and you have to watch for buildup around the ports, on the barrel and the slide. It might help a little on muzzle flip, but it's hard to notice. I'm kind of over the ported barrel thing, personally.

I was recently looking really hard at the PC and non-PC pro's, too. Came close to buying one. The other contender was a 5" M&P 2.0. The trigger on the 2.0 is what made my decision. I just prefer the much more tactile reset, after renting a 2.0 are my local range. You can feel the same difference in the store. I put a RDS on the 2.0 and am very happy with the combo. Have $550 into the whole thing, all brand new, thanks to some great sales and incentives that have been popping up lately.

every review I have read has said the 2.0 is a very good upgrade. Id go that route. Why I am waiting for the Core 2.0 to come out

I have a ported PC Shield and a traditional. To be honest I bought the ported 2nd mainly because I just like the looks of it. Notice very little difference in muzzle flash. The PC trigger is a bit smoother. The PC does get dirty around the ports (big deal). The PC's sights are much nicer. For the small increase in cost go with the PC at least in a Shield. It was only a $40 difference. Both are excellent to shoot and for CC.

If you just want a play toy a ported barrel is fine. For self defense non-ported is the way to go.

That's perpetuated by internet myths. There's nothing wrong with using a ported model for self defense. I've shot my G19c in low light and from retention.

I would never buy a semi auto with a ported barrel.

That's just my thoughts on the matter. A solution in search of a problem. Not to mention added cleaning.

I don't have too much experience with ported and non-ported barrels, but I have to say the one time I shot a ported G19c indoors in very low light there was a noticeable difference with muzzle flash. The ported produced significantly more flash than the non-ported. I'm sure it's something you could get used to, but I would prefer not to have a ported barrel for defensive purposes. If it's for competition, then there's certainly an argument for porting. my dos pesos.

For roughly the same price why not go with the Performance Center version? Probably a little better trigger. The Porting will make a small difference if your shooting fast but it's not a big advantage by any means. I'm basing this off my PC Shield which I do like but when I did a side by side comparison with a Standard Shield I did not feel like there was a huge difference from ported vs non-ported. For the trigger alone I say go PC.

I just bought a MP9 PRO w night sights 4.25 and a MP9 PC 5 PORTED. The ported is nice but cannot shoot competition unless shooting open division. So I'm triing to find a 5 in non ported for my PC. My mp9 has a better trigger than the PC. the PC trigger sucks in mine. Squishy and zero reset. Apex kits will be here soon.
