Pretty much been a 1911 shooter for quite a while. Never really warmed up to polymer pistols, I recently came across a 2.0 9mm metallic and was pretty impressed, felt good, pointed well and trigger wasn’t bad. Definitely not 1911 quality but overall I really liked the gun. Being that this was the first M&P I ever handled I have some questions. First of all how is it different from earlier M&P pistols. Told it would take all 2.0 magazines (are there other mags for a m&p that don’t fit?). And lastly do after market sight companies make sights for this pistol? Thanks in advance, Pat

Aside from a different grip texture and a different trigger, I'm not sure what other differences there are between the 1.0 and 2.0. Aftermarket sights should be pretty easy to find for it as it will take the same sights as the standard m&p9 2.0. Not sure about in florida, but up here in northeast ohio, most gun stores will have 2.0 magazines for sale for $30-$40. Word of warning: dont try to compare the trigger to a 1911. It is good, but it's definitely not 1911 good. Other than that I think you'll really enjoy the all metal m&p. It may be enough to get you hooked into wanting more. I dont even have the metal one and I'm hooked.

Question #1: not a lot, really. There are some differences.

Question #2:: other than the compact magazines, M&P mags work.

Question #3: Almost as many aftermarket sights as with a GLOCK.

Cheers!

P.S. Not many 1911s out there with 17+1 capacity in standard magazines...

Don't get me wrong, I love the 1911 BUT, the new plastic and non-plastic line of pistols these days are more forgiving so to speak. I mean, they can get dirty and will still shoot. When I carried a 1911 for duty, I had issues when qualifying. My mags got dirty and gummed up my 1911. I have also carried the M&P 1.0 in 40 and the 2.0 in 9. No such issues and they still shoot great, better than me.

I am carrying the Metal and love it. My wife has shot it and she really loves it. To big for her to carry concealed which really bums her out. The 1911 has its place just like the new M&Ps, especially the Metal. I carry the CSX when off duty and love it too. More the 1911 style thought but, just as forgiving. Personally I don't think you will be disappointed if you get the Metal......unless you compare it to a tight 1911

Thanks for the input. Fighting a cold right now but when better will be heading to the gun shop and more than likely bringing one home.
Michaelp57 where are you located? I also have a house in Canfield, Oh. Formally from Berlin Center and youngstown.

I've CC'd a 1911 since '86 and first owned a 1911 in '76 . Today my primary carry is a lw commander in 45 in the very rural county we live in but when going to the big city or on road trips like back to naples fl I carry an early m&p 4.25 40sw with a thumb safety and apex trigger kit for a reset to fire trigger pull of 3lb 6oz thats not very different from reset from my 3.5lb trigger 1911 .

I also have a 2.0 5" performance center 40sw thats bone stock with a 5lb 2oz stock broken in trigger pull thats a very good shooter too . I used a trigger style taught to me by a pro shooter in a IPSC match and found out over the years I use the same trigger pull used on shot guns for bird hunting or trap/ skeet and works very well for folks that may shoot different trigger types - Sweeping The Trigger style . read on this trigger pull style . Save that fine trigger reset style for more precise shot placement at longer distances .

You can feel you need a better trigger pull over stock you buy parts or kits from Apex Tactical to improve a stock trigger but keep in mind there is not thumb safety option on the metal frame models . I have no interest in a metal frame version but its hot seller for many .

For me, I always liked the feeling of a metal framed handgun, plus I just never warned up to polymer firearms even though I own a few of them. Would never criticize anyone else's choice especially living in a humid climate as I do 7 months a year. Weight has never been a factor for me as I carry a full size1911 steel frame gun pretty regularly. When not carrying a full size 1911 I will carry a sig officer's sub compact 1911 in 45 ACP. I even switch to a P365 on occasion .

The metal lower is just marketing and cosmetics

The polymer M&P pistols have steel embedded in the polymer frame... everything that needs to be steel is steel and the polymer frame design is extremely robust.

On all of the tactical Tupperware throughout the market, one of the biggest advantages of the polymer frame comes directly from the parts that are polymer because the polymer frame takes the sharp edge off the recoil impulse due to it's ability to flex and bend slightly.

I love metal guns, but I only love metal in guns that were designed to be metal in the first place... 1911's, revolvers, etc

Above all, what matters more than anything, is if you like what you purchase.

If you want an upgraded M&P, in my opinion, you're better off with a polymer Performance Center variant of whatever size you're looking for.

The only reason M&P has a metal frame option is because walther and siggly have them .

Maybe the OP would also like a to check out the girsan - witness 2311 with choice of cartridges and barrel lengths too .

I recently bought a M&P 2.0 SUBCOMPACT . I have fairly small hands but long fingers and I like the adjustable backstraps that you can customize the gun fit to your hands . It has a nice size thumb safety that is very 1911 like … I wanted more ammo capacity than my Officer size 1911s offer . The trigger pull from the factory was
6LB 8.5 Ozs with a long take up . I had my gunsmith install an Apex trigger and now it’s 4 Lbs 14 Ozs way less take up and nice reset. not quite a 1911 trigger but very close . A very nice trigger now .
Capacity is 12 rounds and have a 15 round on order..
If you get an apex trigger I think you will be very happy with it .
Yes I know this is an old thread and I’m late to the party … but wanted to add my recent experience…
