Just read an article stating Russia is halting all Soviet ammo to the US. They are stating that this ammo was soon go the same way as .22 has gone. I do not know how accurate these claims are, or how legit the website is, just putting it out there. Like always, DYOD.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy and fears of new control control legislation from the Obama administration, extreme shortages of ammunition have been sustained over the past 12-24 months, as panicked Americans have raided the shelves of Cabelas and gun-shows across the country buying literally every round they can get their hands on.

Combined with multi-billion round purchases from gov’t 3 letter acronyms such as the DHS and FBI, (including even the USPS and IRS), the shortages have continued even as manufacturers have responded by drastically increasing production.

Over the past 6-12 months, shortages of some calibers such as 7.62 used in the popular AK-47 semi-automatic weapon have been alleviated somewhat via massive imports of Russian production.

That is about to change.

The largest wholesale gun & ammo distributors in the US have informed us in private conversation today that a massive scramble is on for all 7.62 as Russia has reportedly halted all exports to the US of Russian made ammunition.

Our distributor source informed us that yesterday they had several hundred thousand rounds of Russian made 7.62 TulAmmo, and after receiving word early today on the halt of Russian exports to the US, they have been completely wiped out of every last round in the past 10 hours!

We have only several days supply of 7.62 on hand currently at SDBullion under normal market conditions, and expect it will disappear as quickly as 22 LR once word of the Russian export halt spreads.

While Obama and Kerry threaten Russia with economic sanctions over the Ukranian crisis, it appears that Putin has quietly taken the first step and launched economic sanctions of his own against the US.

We have a feeling that we are seeing only the beginning.

If I sold 7.62 ammunition and had the means to start an Internet rumor that there was going to be a shortage, I do it also. You have to be high to pay $0.50/round for 7.62x39 ammunition.

Buy RCBS dies and some bulk bullets and don't worry about it.

Hey I wouldn't doubt it I just bought a VZ2008 (VZ58 clone). I still see plenty ammo out there still, at the moment though at least.

I figure other ex-ComBlock nations would pickup the slack.

Having both a pistol and rifle barrel (.308 bore) for my TC Encore I have reloaded 7.62 x 39 for years. I might shore up on a few more hundred Lapua brass just to be safe. Other than that it will be business as usual. The steel cased AK ammo might be another matter.

3/7 Count me in on the frenzy. Just ordered 200 more pieces of Lapua brass. I figure once the ammo goes, all of the components will be next. Better safe than sorry.

Ohh another conspiracy! I love conspiracies! And why are we still saying dhs and any other .gov agency is buying up all the ammo?

It's a fashion statement. More people are wearing tinfoil hats than ever before.

I'm still buying 1000rd boxes for $210. So they can claim shortage all they want. Until i see it jump up to $420 for 1000rds, i'm not believe in shortage. And if shortage does come around, i'm pretty sure im very well prepared.

Don't know about you... but if indeed the IRS is buying/hoarding ammo, I'm going to request ammo instead of cash for my tax refund this year :D:D:D

Will the fat cats in Russia that have been living a very comfortable life, owed to the dollars being spent in the US for that ammo, quietly find a way to get it here, via a slight detour through another non-restricted country, should this silliness persist?

Or might the Chinese, and other countries, try to step in to fill the void and gain (or regain) some market share, lost when Russian made Tula/Wolf trounced the market?

Remember way back when.... when SKS's first started to become widely available here? Russian ammo was uncommon and Norinco ammo was what was you mostly found.

IMO, someone is using all this stuff over seas as an excuse to drive the prices up of the only cheap ammo that we still have here in the states. They figure they needed and excuse to make more money, so here it is.

When the rest of the country was going crazy over ammo. I've been out buying 7.62 much more than before. Because its never a bad idea to buy ammo at cheap prices. Knowing most of the cheap (steel case) ammo is imported. It wouldnt surprise me to see our gumment stop the import of said ammo. Nor would it surprise me to see another country stop the export of said ammo. In this case its better to buy cheap now than wait and see what happens later. Take the .22lr ammo for example.

I've always enjoyed shooting my AK's more than my AR's because the AK ammo has always been cheaper to shoot. Plus the AK will eat all the dirty ammo u can possibly shove down its throat. So it makes sense to shoot cheap ammo at the range with it. The AK is the most popular so called assault rifle in the world. More civilians in the US own these than any other type. Can u imagine how much money people would give for hard to find 7.62. Take the .22lr scare for example and how much those people spend on it.

Why would Putin halt the export of Russian ammo to the US? It's a cash crop for him, especially if economic sanctions are put into effect on other financial enterprises. The story would make sense if it read that the US was going to stop buying all Russian ammo as part of economic sanctions ... I call Bravo Sierra on this "news" ...

QUICK!!! HURRY!!! In addition to the 22 LR, buy all the 7.62 ammo ammo you can find, even if you don't need it!!!!!

I have a feeling there is going to be a shortage!!!

Spread the unfounded rumor so everyone gets this information too before it is too late!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

China got barred from sales of guns and ammo due to a little thing about the Chinese sending some select fire ak's and not telling anyone until they hit the dock. big mistake of course.

I remember a time when .22lr was all over the place. And many thought they would always be easy to find. Little did they know the life and times of .22lr would end up the way it has now. So it wouldnt surprise me to see some other **** happen.

I wonder whats going to happen if this country has a lack in the water supply.

I have no dog in this fight. Don't know if these rumors are true, but it wouldn't surprise me if we saw another ammo shortage. Figured I'd put the article up, and let people decide for themselves.

I saw a video on youtube warning the run was on, it was uploaded about 5pm MT, I read on the net later that James Yeager called it yesterday:(
I have been watching one of my favorite case suppliers and have seen the cheaper Wolf stuff (in stock count) going down pretty steadily in the last hour and a half or so.

I dont need or want any 7.62, so you can have my fair share of it. There, my part is done and no contributing to a possible problem.
