Possible purchase of a S&W M&P45

Any heads-up I should know about this gun? I'm looking to buy and have found a pretty good price in town, but I've also found a pretty good deal on on a FNP-45. I'm leaning towards the S&W for some of the features and 'cause it's an American company, but the FNH has a hi-cap mag and some similar features. Like my handle says, I'm new to the gun game so any info would be great. Thanks and this is a great forum.

I've been trying to justify the M&P9 Pro (which I don't really NEED) and looking at various options.

My best advice is to find a place you can shoot (like a rental) whatever gun you want.
Plus, if you are really new to the gun game and still feel strange holding one, I'd suggest a good class to learn how to hold it correctly--makes a LOT of difference.

Just holding them in the store, several guns feel about the same to me, but when I wrap the two-handed grip on the M&P and run the plate rack, it just feels "right." For you, it might be another gun. In the end, no matter how highly recommended the gun, it has to fit YOU.

According to one review I saw on the FNP-45,
it's actually made in the USA also. And it got
real good reviews in the one I read.
So it's a hard call. I'd fondle both for a while
and just see which one feels the best. You might
see if any ranges have rentals you can try.
The FNP-45 is not a striker fired pistol like
the M&P is. Don't know if that makes any
difference to you or not.

We have a range member that is a FFL so we get all the new toys to play with.As from my previous post I am NOT a "Tactical Tupperware" fan but I can say that the M+P 45 is dead on accurate right out of the box and with the adjustable grip swells you can adjust the feel for your type of hand.For me my dive into semi auto's drove me to the Chief's Special 9mm because it fit my small hands perfectly.I envy all of you guys whose state allows rentals at ranges and allows non licensed pistol shooters to do sur first guns in NY are a hit or miss proposition because we have to buy our first pistol before we can ever shoot it.God Bless.....Mike

They are both good pistols, i simply found the m&p more to my liking. As for the caliber choice, you might want to visit www.pointshooting.com/fbi10mm.htm to find the most efective and cheapest round to shoot. blue

I have both the 45FS and C . Both great
guns. I just saw on one of the shooting shows
that the FN was a fine gun, but not for carry.
To large. SW MP fit Glk 21/20 holsters. Many
out there. FN ?? MP 's shoot great IMO

I have an FNP-40 and a S&W M&P 45. Both have exchangable back straps to fit the hand better but have to say The M&P 45 seem to have less recoil and I am more consistant on target with it. I expect it is the ergomonics of the grip that makes the M&P feel like it has less recoil. The FNP has a hammer and the M&P doesn't. A side note would be that I haven't been able to find fitted holster for my FNP and while the M&P isn't easy to find they are available. You picked two fine pistols and won't go wrong either way.

Crusier, WTF? You don't have rentals at ranges? What the hell would that prevent as far as crime goes?

The M&P 45 is more comfortable and feels like the 9mm M&P in the hand and you can now get 14 round mags for the M&P 45.

The FNP45 is HUGE. That is enough to disqualify it for me for all but bedside nightstand duty. One nice thing is that it comes with 3 mags.

I would still buy the S&W M&P 45 because it is more carry friendly and easier to hold in the hand as the grip is more manageable.

I shot a friends M&P 9mm the other day, and may was it nice! Ive never even held a FNP but they both seem to be fine firearms.. Id give the edge to the M&P though, just because I know it's a nice gun.. Best of luck on your choice, and Cruiser: try and move out of that crazy state as fast as ya can!! :laugh:
