My bro in law wants to trade me a DB15 AR with a stainless Bergara barrel (and orig barrel), a two stage 4.5 lb aftermarket trigger, and aftermarket stock and foregrip for my 1984 made 686 no dash 4 inch that is in great condition.......would you guys do it?

Haha, posted that quick because I wanted to be first.

Problems with this awful trade:

AR's are a dime a dozen. You can get a stripped lower for $40 and PSA sells low end rifle kits (every single piece except rear sight, magazine and the stripped lower) for $300-$400 depending on what you choose.

Further, a "DB" is, I must assume, a "Diamondback", which is a cheap, low-end gunmaker. There are dozens of AR's on the market and the one mentioned here is bottom barrel, and he's seeking a blue chip revolver that is very high in production but sells all day long at $550-$750 depending on condition, features, extras.

We hear a lot of potential trade offers, this one sucks a lot.

No. I am currently amassing the parts to build an AR in 300 blackout to replace a nice custom AR worth about $2500 that is currently in evidence due to a shooting that I was involved in at my job.that is another story! I am trying to build a truck gun that will be on the cheap but good quality. I expect to build this gun for about $400.00 out of parts. The gun your describe is a low budget AR. As said above, they are everywhere and a dime a dozen. I would not do this trade. If you desire an AR, wait and buy a nice one or build one to your liking.

How much is the AR worth? There's a big difference between low end stuff and high end stuff.

A low end AR is worth $400 to $500. A high end AR is $1,500+. A used 686 is worth about $700 depending on condition and exact model.

Value wise not a great deal IMO...... the brother in law thing brings family dynamics into play...... So why does he want to do the trade? Do you want an AR?

I'll have to trust others comments that a DB is a low end AR........ and to me a no name build...................

I'm thinking a Smith AR Sport is only about $600 these days ...... extra barrel, stock and trigger .... well you can only use one ..... so why buy/trade for 2.

Good luck ..... these family deals are only good if everyone is still happy in a year...... cus... unhappy will be remembered for a lifetime!

Even if the BIL weren't involved, a "dime a dozen" AR modified by WHO??? for a ND 686, NOT A CHANCE, no way, no how.

Wouldn't hit a wild hog in the butt for the best AR out there .Why ? It's just a matter of time before you can't own one or if you do you can't sell trade or transfer it . Just a matter of when not if . Keep your land and Smiths boys cause they ain't makin anymore .

I have a 686+ in 3" and no way I would let it go for an AR-15. Must say however, I also have a Colt 6920 with ACOG & Red Dot....

appreciate the quick responses. I already have three AR's so no need or want for another. I believe I will pass on his offer. I actually got the ND 686 from him a year ago in a trade for a first edition Savage Mod 10 FCM Scout. I believe I got the better deal then, and will hang onto the 686 now.

I did counter offer the 686 for a Model 28 HP that he has, he balked on that offer!

Keep the 686, hard to come by! AR-15s all over the place. ;)

This and your follow up post about the counter offer you made tell me that you knew the answer when you posted. It looks like he has some "swapper's remorse" which is common enough among us gun guys. I'd continue to make counter offers until he accepts one fair to you both or offer to leave it to him in your will (if you trust him not to murder you in your sleep! ;) ). Relationships with inlaws can be interesting, can't they?

I'm no AR expert. But I can walk into Walmart and buy one for around $600 tax and all new. Maybe not all AR 's are the same but my cheap ruger shoots fine. An older 686. I'd be lucky to see one local. Ever. I think high end AR's are over priced. My opinion

If it was a Colt AR, yes. If it is a clone with trendy bling, tell him to throw in a G$ for boot!
