HUH???!!!
They're going to allow open carry of long arms?
Something is wrong in that story.

Not true. Unless things have changed, there are two lines to enter the Texas State Capitol building. One is for citizens with a Texas license to carry. The other line is for people that Texas has not run a background check on.
Somehow, I suspect that the Secret Service, the Capitol Police and the various other federal security organs take somewhat more scrutiny of everyone than Texas does.

Piggybacking a bit on Biku's comments, the role of a military police soldier kind of sucks. When you're in Garrison, you're that guy stuck patrolling and on details with no end and your daily life kind of sucks. You're kind of the blue falcon and the definition of a Pogue or a wannabe. I mean, who ever heard of the military police in a cool guy contest? (Not saying that's reality but that's the perception I had as an infantry Medic when I was in.) at least combat engineers and other people get to do cool stuff, military police were just the narcs. No one wanted to see them.

More to the point, I'd bet a lot of of the people working in civilian law-enforcement with military jobs simply don't want to do law-enforcement as a full-time career everywhere.

And let's not forget the obvious precedent set here: if the president can simply decide that there is a problem, and can deploy National Guard soldiers, federal law-enforcement, and potentially even the active duty military to perform direct law-enforcement tasks upon the citizens of the country, who's to say what the scope of that problem and the corrective action actually are?

Right now, we're talking about board national guardsman, cleaning up trash and walking some patrols in the nice parts of DC.

But the same legal framework that got them here could easily be used to try and send them door-to-door searching for dissidents.

It is a double edged sword and history should remind us that things that sounded good or started out as good can become nightmares and disasters.

Let's stay with facts.

DC wasn't burning. They're crime rate was falling from the 2023 peak, which was lower than another peak in the '90s and the highest ever in the early '70s. Feel free to bother to check.

The city gets to choose; both DC and Albq are Home Rule jurisdictions. They're accountable to their citizens. In Albq, crime rates were rising, not falling, and higher than in DC.

Once there was agreement, the city, the state, and the Guard agreed on the mission, the parameters, the training, and the deployments. The Guardsmen got several weeks of job-specific training.

The ALBQ Guard experiment used home state soldiers who had weeks of specific training on specific topics, as did their noncoms and involved officers. Throwing out-of-state folks into a city of 700,000 as happened in DC with no idea of how to find McDonald's on the street with a few hours of training that sure looked like an afterthought is a disservice to the troops and the citizens.

So what's your experience in law enforcement?
Ok then. Let's stick with the facts…… Albuquerque NM's mayor and NM governor's favorite color is blue. YOUR favorite color is blue. Therefore every thing that was done in DC is wrong. Blue good. Red bad. It's obvious in every post you've ever made what side of the aisle your on. And that's fine. Because I'm sure it's obvious what side I'm on. The difference is you talk in circles (condescendingly) and try to hide it. Just own it. Stopping trying to baffle people with BS. They still won't agree with you but they'd respect you

Would like to see DC allow CCW and hopefully have reciprocity with other states.
Now, if we could just get Maryland to open up to CCW permit reciprocity--they are a PITA, too.

Ah, now we're at the real issue.

Crime is not political. Football is not political. Electricity is not political. Trying to pretend everything in life is political only makes rational discussion difficult.

True, but it seems the Gov of IL is taking sides with the criminals and blaming POTUS, therefore making crime political.

Do they have an **electoral** vote?

Can their representative to Congress cast a vote?

Do they have representation in the Senate?

Fundamentally unfair. Just like people in our territories.

I mean, by your logic, they don't "deserve" a 2A, because "those are the rules" and they chose to live there…
Yes, they do. Try reading the US Constitution (hint: it's the 23rd Amendment)!

Actually - THAT is the problem, you see everything as RED or BLUE, regardless of other factors or facts. MANY posters have pointed out QUITE distinct differences in situation between NM and DC, and you "colorize" them away. You see what you look for, if all you look for is RED or BLUE that is all you are going to see regardless of what is there.

Actually my friend , I do not. I was pointing out that the gentleman I quoted does seem too. There is a long history of it……… I see right and wrong. Not blue and red. In fact I've had very cordial and constructive PM conversations with members here who are of a different ideology than me. The difference is we listen to one another and don't immediately dismiss each other's opinions. In fact we sometimes find common ground. But it's a conversation not a lecture. That's the difference

Safest county in the US...Nassau County N.Y. Only 3 homicides this year to date. Population 1.5 million. Safer than what VT has become. They love and support their cops, no problems recruiting, they defy the state and partner with ICE...no excuses, they just get the job done. How refreshing, unlike so many of the excuses I have read in this thread that attempt to defend the indefensible.

Good grief...
