I just completed a trade with Gatorfarmer, yesterday my mail carrier delivers my package I can see down the block the box is at an odd angle.
He stops by and says I got a package but it didn't feel right when he picked it up. So I take the package inside and open it inside is my Krag in 2 pieces.
I run outside to talk to him and he gives me the 1800 number, so I call them and get someone who cannot speak english at all. I can make out that I need to go to my local office.
So off to the West racne Post Office I go, box and packing matrial and all. Miracle of miracles there is no one in line. I get called to the counter and I explain to the man behind the counter what happened and that I have called the 1-800 number and they refered me to them.
He explains that the people at the 1-800 number are supposed to take care of this, and I again tell him I was sent to the post office by them. He scurries of for a supervisor.
She comes out and again tells me I am supposed to call the 1-800 number, I again explain to her that they sent me to the office. Finally I get to explain that I received a package that was broken, she explains to me that I need the insurance receipt, which is one of the things the 800 number guy told me.
So after about 30 minutes I get enough info to start the process. I e mail Gator and his ffl who both are being very helpful. I get an e mail scan of the receipt and call the supervisor this morning, she tells me I need the original so I e mail again and I expect it will arrive this week.
Meanwhile Gator finds another stock on EBAY and I appreciate that because without his help I would be SOL. I buy the stock.
During my conversation with the supervisor she tells me that there are laws regarding the mailing of firearms. (duh) I explain it was made in 1892 and is not considered anything but an antique.
Also during my conversation with the supervisor she says it can take up to 90 days to complete the investigation and they would have the gun during that time. I can get estimates to fix the original stock ( I might do that anyway, just so I have a spare.)
I will need before photso to prove it wasn't sent broken (Again thanks to gator his add was still there so I just printed them) I am sure they are going to try and blame everyone except the post office inorder to keep from paying.
I tried to tell the woman it looked as if someone had either run over the package or used it as a pry bar. I am sure I didn't make myself popular with them.
I explained that I had complete faith in the man I was dealing with and it would not have been boxed up like that, but the post office is a suspicious place.
So i expect another trip to the post office will happen this week, and i may be in a better mood by then.
I would like to thank GatorFarmer for his help and that of his FFL. Both have been great during this adventure of mine.
I did go to West Bend un show and that made me a bit happier.
Oh by the way both the supervisor and clerk assured me that the 1800 number workers are not regular postal workers they are only contract employees.
