My 10's

This is my winter carry piece with Double Tap 180gr JHP. This is actually the picture the guy I bought it off of used when he posted it for sale. It's still the best picture I have of it.

Here it is in my O'Rourke Leather pancake rig

One of my favorite, if not THE favorite Smith.

Thanks, Ken. Now if I could just photograph it as well as you do your guns ...

It looks like colt_saa (a couple posts up) and Richard Simmons (right above) have the same model.

Yep. Only difference is mine had the factory stocks replaced with these Ahrends when I bought it. They are my favorite round butt stocks.

Here is my 610-3 6.5" that S&W polished. I will post one of my 610 5" when I get a chance in a week or two.

folks, forgive my ignorance for a minute, but what does a 10mm revolver do that a .41 magnum revolver cant do?

dont get me wrong, i love old school Smith&Wesson revolvers and i have a 10mm Glock.

im just curious as to if this is simply a collector thing or is there something else...

What does a .41 do that a .44 can't do? For a handloader the .44 Magnum can do everything well, from plinking to large game. Don't need any other calibers. What the 10mm does for me is provide a caliber with the power of .357 Magnum but more pleasant recoil, shooting a heavier, larger bullet that comes stock set up for moonclips. 10mm is quicker and easier to reload, for me anyway, than the longer .357 case. So I use it not instead of .41, but as a substitute (I think superior) for .357.

A 10mm revolver can also shoot .40 S&W.

You can also find factory 10mm easier and probably cheaper than 41 mag.

You can also use full moon clips in a 10mm which are faster than just about any other method of reloading a revolver.

It can also make a great companion piece for you 10mm auto.

Personally I don't consider it an a "betweener" any more than a .41 mag might be if I wanted to apply the same reasoning as yourself. Pretty much everything is between one thing or another.

You can also have the chambers lengthened to accept the 10MM Magnum cartridge.

Then you can probably kiss any .40 caliber accuracy goodbye.

Of course, I never shoot 40 so I have actually looked at getting my cylinder reamed for 10mm Mag.

I tried that, but was disappointed. Couldn't get any better performance than 10mm, probably due to a lack of courage. All the 10mm Magnum lets you do is cram extra quantities of bulky magnum powder into the case. Regular 10mm case capacity is pretty limited, though you can get about as much AA9 in there as is useful. Using powders like 296 and LilGun, the Magnum is the way to go. For those with the fortitude, anyway.

Where can I get the chambers reamed out? My 3" Lew horton 610 won't quite accept Double Tap's 200 gr hardcast. I'd be happy with just enough for that load, not the 10mm mag.

The thing with a 10 mm magnum is you can use heavier bullets such as a hard cast 230 grain bullet and keep the velocity up to par with a 170 grain hard cast bullet while shooting 100 yards instead 50 yards max.

Same thing was done to the 357 magnum, called the 357 supermag.

I hope this is right this time, trying to think and write with a 4 year old and 15 month old boys raising hell is almost impossible.

Any competent gunsmith should be able to do this for you. Myself, I would use Mark at Pinnacle.

Wow!
How may of those were made?
I'm thinking I need a 3" or 4" 610 to complete the 10MM stable.
It is one of my favorite rounds.

WFR,
As far as I know, only one. In fact, I had it made. It started life as a M610-1 and I had the factory install the 4" barrel, bead blasted finish and installed the flash chromed hammer/trigger.
Here are some additional pics....
