First 5 screw S&W

This is a picture of my first 5 screw S&W, and also my first S&W handgun. It's a 1952 Mod.15 Combat Masterpiece that I bought brand new in 1953, for 85.00. This old gun was carried for protection while traveling, and used in 'bullseye competition', and has had many bushels of ammunition fired through it. It still remains as tight as it was when new. It is shown displayed in a homemade wood case, along with an altered holster, and it's acuterments. I built the case to replace the plain unmarked cardboard factory box that it came in. That box was lost somewhere, in the many moves, to different homes, in our early married lives. The custom wood grips that it wears, are fiddleback maple grips, made of wood from a maple tree planted 60+ years ago by my Mom, and my wife, in our back yard. This mod.15 Combat masterpiece is prepared as a legacy for our Son. Thanks for sharing this picture, and long winded, but abbreviated story.

Guys, remember that pre-27 I posted back in January? Well, Herretts sent me the custom grips I ordered. They fit my hand very comfortably.

Does anyone have the catalogue? The serial number is 174xxx, if anyone can give me the date?

Oh, sorry 1730xx is the correct serial number.
Could it be 1956?

Since my model 17 no dash is a 4 screw variation, the only one that qualifies is this , brazilian 1917 second batch (1946) of the 1937 contract.
Regards, Ray

My first 5-screw

I picked this up at a local estate auction. 1905 Hand Ejector 4th Change. .32 WCF. Had it lettered. Came with a Bucheimer Towson Holster.

So many great stories and pictures!

My first 5-screw, this "Regulation Police," is my most recent Smith & Wesson. I recently told the story in another thread, detailing how I found it (a pawn shop find).

Since finding this I-Frame gem in late February of this year, I've gleaned so much (more!) S&W-related information from the fine folks, here.
Thank you!

My next steps include:
-joining SWCA
-getting a factory letter
-possibly shooting,* after doing a complete tear-down and lubrication, including polishing the cylinder stop surface (a la Hondo44, Jim)

*I'm honestly struggling with this question as I have yet to cock the hammer or pull the trigger. I have no doubt the original grease is present in the action and has likely thickened up.

Oops, I made a mistake in post #79. I had thought the 1905 Target was my first 5 screw but it wasn't. Two months before I ran across this in my local gunstore. They told me the barrel had been cut and the grips didn't match so it was only $599.99 plus $48 tax for a $647.99 total on 5/15/2014.

K32 Masterpiece Pre-Model 16 Special Order with 4" barrel. One of ten shipped 3/4/1949.

Is the letter implying that Mr. Folsom took delivery of all 10 of these? If so, I'll have to keep my eyes open for one at the gun shows and stores in my area. I live about 10 miles from Warren, OH. He must have been a prominent citizen, as there is a Folsom Street in Warren.

38 M&P Model of 1905/4th change. Original maroon box serial numbered to the gun. From the s/n I believe it is from the 1940's making it one of the last ones made before wartime production put a hold on most civilian sales.
