With money the way it is today I'm struggling a bit about buying more handgun powder. My dilemma, I've found two lbs each of Vihtavuori 3N37 and N340. I use both products and have several lbs on hand. I'm not really needing any of either, but what I've found is priced at $35/lb.

Normally I wouldn't fret about spending $150 on a bargain that I really don't need. Now however I now fret about paying for my home heating and groceries.

A person can "bargain" himself broke. I'm not, "yet anyway."

I don't foresee the price of VV products going down, but there are lower cost alternatives that I also use. Availability and price of all products is very uncertain.

So, spend the $140 and appreciate having the powders. Or do I pass on it? Setting on the cash for something that may be more important as winter approaches is what the responsible voice tells me. The other voice is saying, the way things are you're not likely to get any powder at a lower price. Buy It!

Thanks for allowing me a sounding board. Also thanks for taking the time to read and any insight you have to share.

$35/lb? In this market if you have to ask about that powder at that price, you need to look around you in the new world of bidenomics…. If you have to question about buying powder, that you already have in stock, versus paying for necessities, you need to go back and revisit high school economics… Hint, pay bills first and then buy things such as powder.

But, you do you, boo!

While I've got hopes for election day, I don't think the current economy is going to be turned around quickly. In fact, the worst may be yet to come.

Some time back I held my nose, closed my eyes and spent $50 for a pound of a 4350 equivalent. Should cover a decade or two of deer hunting.

How long will the several pounds on hand last you?
Under 2 years? Go and buy them.
Over 4 years? I'd hold off.
In-between is a toss up.

Seems it may be good to buy them since they are available at a decent price. If necessary, you can sell or trade them in the future.

At least you are young enough to worry.

At my age, I am using up the least used powders and saving the best, for last
in order to thin out my stash.

I only use the good stuff for special occasions.

Good luck with your decisions.

Buy it, unless you absolutely can't afford to. For the the foreseeable future, the price of powder will go up while the value of the $ will go down. Powder and primers in your garage are better than money in the bank.

The stated current rate of inflation has been pretty consistent at 8 to about 8.5 percent this year, it may come down to somewhere in the 5-6% range next year, so consider that when it comes to buying anything. Also consider that a lot of things have had a much higher rate of inflation that the officially stated rate. I do not expect the price of firearms, ammo, or reloading components to ever return to pre-pandemic levels.

Can you buy one pound of each? Easier on the pocket and conscience...

I was about to ask the same thing. Split the baby, buy 1lb of each and heat the house too. (unless there is a hazmat fee which would kill the price)
