Powder measure recommendations?

RCBS Competition, a derivative of the Uniflow. It's doesn't leak with H110 or any of the Accurate handgun powders and it is very easy to set using the Micrometer set charge wheel.

BTW, I have three of the Lee NOT Perfect Powder Measures and at some point they'll all go into the trash. Because they leak like a sieve with ball ball powders and are so fussy to set I bought 3 of these cheap measures just so I didn't have to change between 38 spl., 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. BTW it was the 45 ACP that led to the decision to purchase a real powder measure (the RCBS) and toss the Lee stuff under a bench. Accurate #5 is perfect in the 45ACP and the Lee measures leak this powder all over and eventually jams.

Sum it up, the RCBS Competition is the BEST. It is very easy to set up and repeat settings and it just plain works.

Powder dropper

In the past I used a RCBS mounted on top of a Lyman belling/feed thru die in a three station C/H press! It functioned just fine! This setup requires time to change calibers. My Dillon 550 takes about 5 mins to change calibers and most of that is setting the powder dump!

The RCBS Competition measure looks like a Uniflow with the baffle and micrometer screw that can be purchased for the Uniflow.

I prefer Reddings, but I had a couple of the RCBS measures years ago. As for consistency, I think they were just as good as the Reddings, but that coarse adjustment screw prevented any accurate return to a previous setting. This was long before RCBS offered a micrometer-type adjustment, certainly a great improvement.

I charge my cases on-press using a Redding T-7 via a powder-through expanding die (handgun rounds only though 5.56 is in my future). After my learning curve, my Lyman 55 powder measure is reliable and consistent. I picked up an extra turret head and tried a second powder measure - tried the Lee Deluxe Perfect Measure - ugh. Leaking like a sieve with W296, get that fixed with some polishing compound, then play around with the angles for the throw arm and the .... call it the measuring tube. Long story made medium, I'm returning it in better condition than when it came to me, but I'm not going to mess around with it any more.

Internet sleuthing shows the Lyman 55 is discontinued.

What's the go-to value powder measure these days?

The "go to value powder measure" is the Lee deluxe perfect. I've used fine ball powders with mine from day 1 - I've no idea what you did wrong.

Now the $25 Lee Perfect (red plastic) will leak ball powders and I never was never able to fix it. But it worked "perfect" for stick and flake powders.

Another vote for RCBS. I have a Dillon 550 but with rifle I do the powder charge with the RCBS so I can see it. You can do 50 in about 2 minutes.

I bought a Lee Auto Disc Deluxe when they were first introduced many years ago. It is the one with the square powder container, not the newer round one. I upgraded it originally with the brass digital control instead of using discs.

Right at the onset I calibrated the unit with each type of powder I use, and graphed it for every single 0.01 increment in the range. To this day, even after switching many many lots of powders it still dials in spot on. Never had a leak or a malfunction. I can't imagine why they discontinued it, but I do see some used ones on ebay once in awhile.
