Hazmat Fee

Hello all, Happy Veterans Day!

I'm more of a Lurker and reader of this great forum as I only recently joined. I want to take the time to explain to members about Hazmat Fees.
I work in a field where I personally ship Hazmat on a daily basis around the world. There is 9 classes of hazmat. Price is determined quantity and package size.Yes its very expensive to ship. This is a real thing to have hazmat on the very planes you take for Vacations or any other reason to fly. I have been doing this for 30 yrs. Having said all that let's talk about Freight Rates. These rates are a combination of what the item is and the amount of said company ships with each freight company ie FedEx UPS and so on. I can assure you that Larger companies (Midway) for example is using shipping cost as a revenue stream. So yes it is a crummie thing to have deal with but it is never going away. This all started back in the early days of Freight Train transportation and companies were shipping TNT, barrels of oil ect. and all kinds of fires and or explosions happened with the improper storage of Hazardous materials on these trains.

So in short these are not bogus charges but could be done cheaper by bigger companies because of the amount of freight they send out. Fat chance of that.

Cities

Rates = revenue for the big guys.
