PPC shooters: I've got stock and 1500 guns for NRA PPC and I'm looking for a rules compliant "off-duty" semi auto. Can you give me some suggestions and in what caliber ? Thanks.

I haven't made the move to an Off Duty Auto, still trying to figure out the Off Duty Revolver. Those that have seem to be using a 1911 style in 9mm or 45, especially if they use that platform for Open, Distinguished and Stock. Makes sense, you can use the same magazines(if the same caliber), as long as they fit into the rules, same holster, magazine holders, etc. If you don't want to spend a grand on another gun, you can try out some of the multitude of semi-autos that are chambered for at least .380 acp and a barrel length of not more than 3.5". Some are very accurate, and the rules are fairly forgiving as to the fixed sights installed. Keep us informed as to what you choose.

Several of the young BP guys shoot the heck out of those EMP. If I didnt live in CA and wanted a 1911, look for an older springfield ultra compact in 9mm,they dont make them anymore ,except in .45,or special order from custom shop, but you see them for sale, them accurize it,or get one of the versions of PC 6906 compact.,I have one , you only fire 1 shot double action at 25yrds so thats not that big a deal to me, shoots 1-1 1/2 " at 25 yds, if I do my part. There are other ways to go but these would be the cheapest. P/C 6906 makes a great ccw or off duty gun also. Good luck. REB

Off-Duty Autos

I have seen many people recently shooting M&Ps. A PPC gunsmith by the name of Joe, who owns MOJO Custom Guns (of which I now own 3) and Brush Creek Ltd., does amazing work to M&Ps. The action is flawless, he stipples the grips, and polishes the slide sides. I was always a Sig-Sauer guy for autos until this gun. I will be buying my own shortly.

If you're ok carrying locked and loaded, a 9mm Springfield 1911 by Joe or Springfield custom is awesome out to 50 yds.

I have shot a few Bill Davis guns, I also own an original Powers' Custom and none compare to his.

You can see his prices and contact him for prices at:

Glad to see someone ask before buying a gun that doesn't do what they want it to do.

Unfortunately, the grip stippling and slide polishing are external modifications and the gun would be disqualified for the PPC Off-duty match.

Yes this is true. I didnt think about that while writing it, I was thinking it was wanted as an off-duty carry-gun also for use in PPC. Not for use in service matches.
