Blount County (east) Tennessee sheriff's deputy Craig McCowan was murdered last night during a traffic stop. Deputy Shelby Eggers was wounded in the encounter. The shooter is still at large.

There is an $80,000 reward for the shooter (Kenneth Wayne DeHart, Jr.).

Smith & Wesson which recently moved to Blount County, Tn. has put up $40,000 of the reward.

Prayers go out to the surviving deputy, the families and and friends of both deputies, and to the other brothers and sisters in blue that have worked with them.🙏I wonder why they were pulling this scumbag over. I don’t guess it was a felony stop, or more officers would have been involved. Probably a non working taillight or something. Our police men and women need to be vigilant at all times these days. There are NO routine calls anymore!

Apparently there were warrants out on him. Also, he had already served time for past felonies.

Gotta think he was "highly drugged" as it's been reported that he was tased with no effect.

So sad, RIP. Another example of a Taser not working. I hope the perp gets what he deserves.

We just lost a Las Cruces, NM police officer who was stabbed to death. An armed bystander engaged the perp and killed him on the spot.

The perp, as is far too often the case, had a rap sheet as long as his arm and should have been locked up long ago.

Those who wear the badge are putting it all on the line for us.

It is just disgusting how many of these mutts are loose on the streets. America used to know how to handle them.

As one congressman said of Jeffery Dahmer "He was sentenced to 3 meals a day, a place to sleep, medical care, recreational and educational opportunities..."

As a resident of Blount County, I am disgusted and extremely proud of our community after this event. It is amazing how sudden the community can become polarized. Some feel that the fallen Officer McCowan must have provoked such an incident. McCowan has been a proven hero. The overwhelming majority of the community has rallied behind the police force and families involved. Too many peoples lives are now devastated. I was very impressed with Smith & Wesson's immediate support in this situation. I do not know Deputy McCowan's family, but I do know many of his extended work family. My heart hurts for their loss. I continue to pray for all families involved. I thank S&W's honorable actions.
