I found a 5" barrel K frame, serial # C104xxx, wearing diamond magna stocks, blue steel. Several small spots of surface rust along the RH side of the barrel and frame where the barrel screws into the frame. LH side is clean as a whistle. Faint cylinder line, locks up tight, possibly tighter than any S&W I have ever owned or handled. Is this a pre #10? DOB from around 1949-1950? Is it worth $300.00 + tax? Thanks.

Yes, Pre-10; yes, late '49 or early 1950. If the rust is something that would come off with steel wool and oil in about a minute, then the price is OK, but would be more OK at about $50 less.

I'm expressing a value judgment based on California pricing. I would expect to see that gun offered at about $300-350 here, but only after someone cleaned it up. Who would put out a rusty gun for sale?
