pre-17 box question

i really need to know what is the correct box for pre-17,serial# k2061xx.i thought it should be the gold box.my friend and s&w collector says it could be a blue box that he has,but his box has april 1955 printed on the inside lid.i really want the correct box which i believed would be the gold box.thanks curt.

Your gun was likely shipped in early 1954 but even at that I don't think the first blue / gray boxes were in use until the 57 time frame. I have a K-22 K241,XXX gun that shipped in mid 55' and it came in a gold box.
Also several K-38s in the K23X,XXX range that all came in gold boxes.
I think you are safe in gold.
