I have been assigned the task of selling some guns for my grandpa. The first is a S&W factory engraved N frame. He told me he paid $2700 for it new. Here's some pictures:

Serial numbers on the frame under the grips match the serial number on the barrel. The numbers on the frame and the cylinder bar are also matching.

Holy Cow - if that is all Factory work and letters as pictured with Factory engraving, I'd guess you could double your Grandfathers original investment [atleast].
The fact he bought it new, he probably has the box, papers and tools............
You should spend $30 on letter

Don't let that one get out of the Family - you are going to get a lot of emails

Very nice Class A-factory engraved, two-tone ".357" Magnum. The engraving appears to be the work of Harry Jarvis, who engraved for S&W for many, many years. I would say $6500 is a good place to start in terms of value.

The revolver was most likely shipped with smooth target stocks made of rosewood.

Wow..
Tell us about the other ones!!!
Nice gun!!

You already heard from Doc44 and I suspect very few people on the planet could tell you more about that wonderful gun. As others have said, get a letter. If I were you, I would find a way to buy that from Grandpa (unless the others are even better). Wow, that's a serious piece of hardware.

What a beautiful gun. If you let that slip through your finger, you just may regret it for the rest of your life. Talk about an heirloom. If that gun letters and has the box and papers, it's worth a fair bit, no doubt. Exactly how much? Plenty I would think; five to ten thousand at least???

Rugerfan,

I'm glad you came over to here for these folks to see the gun. Doc44 has some good advice.

rugerfan,

Welcome to the S&W forum. Heck of a first post...Doc44 is a poster over at the RugerForum and a very valuable asset over here. His assessment of your gun is spot on....

Again, welcome to the S&W forum...

An amazing work of art, the value of such an item is whatever the owner decides it is. But that is the kind of weapon one just doesn't sell.

First off, Welcome to the forum!

Second off, Can I be first in line if it goes up for sale.

I'll post my "I'll take it" right now if that helps.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

Todd

If I was you and had the means, I would NEVER let that one out of the family. You will never be able to replace it. I'm sure you and Gramps can make a deal. Would also love to see his other guns.

I acquired one of those recently. Different engraver however. They truely are a work of art. Beautiful Pre-27 you've got there. Enjoy it.

Very Nice! Although Doc's assessment may be right on, I would think that your grandfather would want a working class guy like me to appreciate that revolver for a long time and that he would be fine with you sending it to me for his cost

Honestly - I think that that revolver should stay in your family. Too nice a piece to let go of...

Bulldogs don't drool as much as I am drooling right now.

What major felony can I commit on your behalf in exchange for that gun?

Just gorgeous. Never let it out of your sight and by all means, never, EVER sell it.
