"Pre-27?"

I didn't want to walk on the other "pre-27" threads, so I ask this question: (I probably know the answer but presently my brain has gas!) What were the Pre-27 guns called, as they weren't model-numbered yet? Was it Patrolman or something like that? For example my .22 is called a K22 Masterpiece, not a Pre-17. Stuff like this shows me I may be getting forgetful at 64 yrs. old.

The OP was asking specifically about the (pre) Model 27, which is what my post referred to. The others mentioned in Bill Cross' response were the pre-Models 28 and 19, as he said.

I appreciate the answers. With all the different S&W models, especially Pre numbering system, people like me get confused. I should probably learn to read and buy a book or two about this...hopefully with pictures. Actually, pics would be a necessity.

I just ordered this book about 15 minutes ago...Apr.23, 2021, @10:45 PM (Actually more like 10:48 PM, EST, but why be so OCD'ish!) Thank you for the info, Mr. Wiregrassguy!
BTW, I did pick up reading printed words somewhere back in the early '60s; I just didn't want to show off!
Only about $55, hard cover.
