I stumbled across this beauty at a Cabella's a while back and got it at a nice price. I don't see a lot of these pre-28 HPs. Serial number S130xxx puts it mid-50s. How scarce and any opinions as to value? I'm not selling but just curious.

Brad - pre 28's are not scarce by any means unless you find one NIB.
If the grips number to the gun and it's as nice as your pictures show, I'd be happy to get it for $700 or less.
If it was a 4" gun, add $100-150

Late 54 early 55, but at that time period it is tough to say. Some shipped earlier, and some shipped a year or 2 later in that time frame.

As for value, there is one on GB now for a few days for 850, and no bids. There was one on this forum for 1K a couple weeks ago I have seen them on GI for 1450.00, but that is not realistic. At that money, buy a M27. Condition means a lot, and if the box is with it, and are the grips numbered to the gun. I would say 8 to 9 hundred pending condition and goodies, and 100 to 150 more for a 4"

BTW, that looks like a very nice example. Grips match?

Thanks for all the replies. No box or other goodies. The stocks are 121423 so they are right period but not a match. If anyone has the revolver S121423 let me know and I'll give you a great deal on some matching stocks!:D

All in all pretty much confirmed that I have a nice shooter (which it is!)

Sometimes the term "shooter" is applied as a pejorative. As in:
"Oh, that's just a shooter."
Sure it can be shot but it is way too nice to treat it like a "truck gun". (Now that is a pejorative!)

$700 sounds about right. I would never holster it, and only take it out to the range on nice days. If you want one for field use, get a well-used but not abused M28-2.

I would really like to have a 4" Highway Patrolman.

I gave a really nice one to a good friend for helping me out some time back.

I think right now I'm more interested in finding a nice 4" M27-2.
