All I have at the moment to post is this photo however it is a four screw. Could the stocks be correct? Any thoughts on value?

I'm pretty certain is should have Coke bottles, which it doesn't. I would call 850-900 tops if you really wanted it.

Whoops, senior moment. Those aren't even diamond targets let alone Cokes so they can't be correct for a Pre-29. Asleep at the wheel on that one.

SCSW notes that 4-screw "Pre-29's" carry pretty good values. Although the stocks are not correct, a set of "Cokes" could be found. With that said, the gun should sell for between $650 (Very Good) to as high as $1000 (Very Good +). NIB is $2500, but this one is a shooter, not a safe queen! Neat guns, by the way...I find that most haven't been fired much... something about the recoil, perhaps? I'm probably going to be charged with sniffing glue or something, but my goal is a 5-screw, 5-inch nickel pre-29!

I think the Pre-29 is worth about $650 in its current condition. A decent set of correct stocks will cost around $300 or more in today's market.

MikeyL...You might find a 5-screw 44 Magnum with a 5-inch barrel and bright blue finish (S&W made two), but I doubt if you will find one in nickel. There are a few 5-screws in nickel with a 6 1/2-inch barrel (approximately five were made).

Never apologize for what you like, but you'll have to make one. When they didn't make what you want, have it made. Find a 'doggie' 6 1/2" blue one cheap, the most common configuration, and have it made into what you want! It'll still be less money than an original even if they made one and you can fondle and shoot it to your heart's desire.

Actually, I was trying to be funny, but you guys took me serious!

I agree, I'd have to make one. I do have a nickel 29-2 that I could hack up, but I'd probably ruin a nice gun!

Thanks, gang!

When it comes to guns, one should have exactly the configuration one prefers, especially when it's not really that difficult to do or have done. I wanted a 1950 4" 5 screw Pre Model 26 (.45 ACP/Auto Rim with slender barrel) which was too rare to find or even afford. I got one with professionally cut barrel and excellent satin refinish that used to be a 'dog' on the outside (that's the only kind I'll modify). It looks like a new, all factory gun now but still slick as a mid-50 action and a great shooter I never have to worry about using. I have safe queens but it's my favorite (most comfortable) type of gun to handle and shoot. I put the original solid top target grips away and use custom grips and put a semi-wide new style smooth combat trigger in it. All for a third of what a nice original safe queen would have cost and I didn't have to pay $50 for a letter. I prefer early Smiths anyway and because I'm on the Left Coast, it and pre wars being C&R guns, they are the only kind I can shop the whole country for and legally get into the People's Republik of Kalifornia. Pre wars are even harder to find nice, very pricey, but even more 'doggies' abound. So I'm a switch hitter (not that kind) between accumulater of shooters and collector of queens. And you get to take the shooters apart and really learn about them.
