pre-29 question

i have read in a few different places that the stamping of the model number began at serial S179000,my pre-29,S179630,letters as a pre-29 shipped on july 29 1958.i'm thinking they just gave a rounded of number.i would appreciate any info. or thoughts.thanks curt.

Mine is S181xxx and its not model marked either.

The stamping of MOD-29 in the yoke cut began at approximately serial number S184000.
