Pre-lock 342PD

360sc on gb sell in the 400s- (12 oz .357) older version of the 360pd. 337s (.38 like 342) also sell in that price range and match the 342 weight at 10.8 oz.

Alexrex,

take a look at the 4th edition, SCSW (page 283), tells you that 342PD versions were made in 2001 with Scandium, flame shield and visible titanium pins in the frame. Retail was $750.

Interesting. Mine was test fired in '04 so I expect it to be around that vintage. It has the visible titanium pins but no flame shield.

Wish I had seen this thread 3 days ago.

Saw a 342PD with lock on another forum.
Looks like it's in great shape.
No box or papers and he had for $550 shipped.
I thought that was a great price so jumped on it.

Some gun expert I am!

Mini14jac,

talk is cheap, when push comes to shove, you can only react to what is really there. You did OK.

I have one that I paid $550 for a few years ago, I have never seen one for sale in this area since. And don't forget, shipping is up everywhere, $50 is getting to be the average around here.

Don't second guess yourself, you got a great gun.

$550 shipped ain't bad at all. I paid considerably more than you.

Thanks guys.
I'm looking forward to getting it in my hands.

I've got a thread on here from several years ago about a 342TI that I found.
I loved that gun!

And then I sold it.
:-(

Hopefully won't repeat that mistake.

There is a nice one for sale on GunBroker right now. It does have the lock, but it is auction-style with a few days remaining. And this one comes with Crimson Trace grips. Buy now price is only 600 which in my opinion is a pretty good deal.

I was able to shoot my "with lock" 342PD.

Very pleased.
Oddly, I found it more pleasant to shoot than my 642 though the 642 weighs more.
80 rounds, mostly 130 gr. fmj left my hand a little tender.

I put it on my postal scale.
With Bantam grips, mine weighs 11.7 ounces.
Looks like they figured out that it was cheaper to stock the same cylinder with narrow flutes for the TI and PD models.
With the lock components added, the gun is not quite as petite as it used to be.

Still one of the lightest guns in town.
Crimson Trace is running a $50 rebate for two months, so I've got a LG 405 grip on the way.
When my Plug gets here I'm going to install a Apex kit.
Looking forward to the final product.

P8riot, yours is the lighter gun with the deep wide grooves in the cylinder.
And it's pre lock.
Nice!

If you compare your picture to the auction picture above, you can see the difference in the cylinders.

I have the exact gun as you have pictured. No lock, deep flutes, pins showing but no flame shield. Mine is unfired and I don't even have the heart to carry it although it is a lightweight!

Are these aluminum or Scandium frame?

Gary

Mine was used when I got it, but what do you expect for $400?

Not afraid to carry or fire it.

There is a whole thread going on the Scandium/aluminum thing.
I'm thinking aluminum.

The Airweight guns handle .38+P just fine so think they figured out they could lighten the frame a little, install titanium pins and cylinder and have the perfect carry gun.

Not sure if a call to S&W could answer this or not.

If they had Scandium frames I bet you could drop a .357 cylinder in there and be off to the races.
(If your gun has the blast shield.)
