Pre mod 10

Just picked up an old, I think, pre model 10, sn c 1683xx, it has laid long time and has lot of rust around trigger guard. I used the frontier pad and got most of rust off, but damage is still done. The gun hasnt been shot much and is mechanically in vgood condition. It has 2 in barrel, square grips, diamond hand sw grips in good condition, when was it made and from what I have said, approximate value. Thanks

C1683xx would have shipped probably late 1951. M&P snubbies are the most desirable. Without having it in hand, I'd say maybe $450 in a private sale, depending on the finish damage.

They probably know each other, mine has rust around trigger guard mostly on the right side, I have it about off, but that leaves some pitting. Yours is much better condition but is a true copy of mine. Thanks, also, barrel and cylinder cleaned up beautifully.

Best we can tell, it's an older factory refinish. Much brighter than the 1951 finish.

I would say that's a correct assumption. Until around 1955, the finish did not have a high gloss. And yours also seems a little bit soft at the corners which should be sharper.
