pre mod.15 weird trigger pull

I have this pre 15 that has a odd feeling when pulling single action. If you pull slowly you can feel just a slight bit of travel before the release.After the creep it breaks clean. I have felt many trigger pulls, but this one I am not sure where to hone to take the wee bit of creep out.S/N starts with K117XXX. a little help please...hawken... PS. I just played with the pistol again and when you pull real easy you can feel the hammer actualy lift just a bit,The movement of the trigger is impossible to measure but i,m guessing about 20 to 30 thousands. Thanks.

Your hammer notch has been honed to an improper angle. The single action hammer notch when engaged with the trigger sear is no longer parrallel to the sear. That's why it must lift the hammer before tripping it.

The good news is that it's a super safe trigger let off and it will never slip off, but a lousy trigger pull. The other good news is it's very fixable. Hone the hammer notch parrallel to the trigger sear.

You'll be able to observe what's happening and where to hone with the sideplate removed.

Also, check the FAQs in the gunsmithing section. Look for a discussion of "push-off," which is in a sense the opposite problem of yours. There is a good illustration of how the hammer and trigger fit together when the gun is cocked.

If you are going to stone the notch in the hammer, be conservative and careful. One or two passes too many with the stone can completely ruin a hammer. The notch is extremely shallow.
