I was finally able to get out to the local gun show recently and scored this nice pre model 10. Nothing to write home about for some but I was tickled as this is my first "Gold Box" acquisition.
Mr. Jinks says it left the factory April, 1947.

A very nice find. Congrats.

That one is in the middle of a large run of 4" units. Examples in that general serial range were shipping during the months from January to September, 1947. Guns in this range are the classic example of "not shipping in serial order."

Thanks for sharing.

The purists among us will tell you it isn't a "pre-Model 10" since it still has the long action, which did not go away until the S990xxx range. But call it what you like. :)

Very sharp Smith. I love the pre Model 10s. Also like the early Colts with their half moon front sights. Square butts and lanyard rings are also the bomb. This is my little Police Positive and it has a lanyard ring too.
