Pre Model 10 from 1948

I went to one of my favorite gun shops today to buy a Ruger SS Old Army, and while there I was perusing the S&W's. He had two beautiful old M&P's, which I drooled over, but then I spotted this beauty on the lower shelf and decided to bring it home along with the Old Army.

There is a bit of bluing removed around the front side plate screw, but I didn't let that stop me, as the rest of the gun is pristine. No discernible turn line and we don't think the gun has been fired since leaving the factory.

In my mind a 5" M&P is the 'cats meow', perfect symmetry in a K frame. You have done very well, I hope you will enjoy shooting it as much as owning it.

Lee, Bill's find is still a long action revolver; the shape of the hammer gives it away. Roughly the last 2000 S-prefix revolvers were short action (S998000 and above), and they had the new "high-speed" or fishhook hammer. But you are correct that this gun is indeed very close to the end of the run for a half-century of long-action K-frames.

Neither myself or the shop owner think a screwdriver did the damage. All the screws are pristine and look like they have never been turned.
