I'm looking at a Pre 27 with 3 1/2" barrel from 1950 or 1951. It has either ivory or walrus tusk hand carved stocks on it. It has the gold box with it. Would SW shipped this gun with these stocks or have they been added. They have a different eagle carved on each side. Everything is in excellent condition. My question is if SW shipped guns that age with grips that aren't wood.

The ivory stocks may or may not be be a price enhancer, although as Iggy said not OEM. The box would need to number to the gun to be of significant value. Check for handwritten numbers on the bottom. If you are looking at over $1000 you need to get educated real quick on the characteristics of originality.

It is hard to go wrong with ivory these days, and being carved, can be worth big bucks. They could be worth $1000 all by themselves. Are they magna or target style?

The stocks are not target, but they didn't look like magna either. They look like early hand ejectors. They have the half circle at the top like the hand ejectors. The serial # dates the gun as late 1951. The box is the gold box which is correct for that year. He is asking 1750$.

Assuming the Ivory is real, and the condition is excellent, that price isn't out of line and possibly relatively cheap. Discounting the grips, probably in the $1300+ range, and ?? additional for "real" Ivory.
