The most interesting thing I noted about this revolver is the name "L.J. SHANKS" and the date, "DEC. 25 42" written on the right grip.

I was hoping that the revolver was shipped directly to somewhere I could find some information about Mr(s?) Shanks, but it was not to be.

I'm still quite pleased.

Hope you liked it.

Great find. Love those grips. Soon after this one was produced they changed to the wartime finish and smooth grips.

Thanks for sharing.

These "Guard Guns" are interesting S&Ws if you can find out who got them, etc. Sometimes the factory letter will show the defense plant, ot PD that got them, but not in this case. However, you do have a clue with the name. I've had some luck in similar situations by using the 1940 US Census records. There's probably not a lot of "L.D.Shanks" who were of adult age in the US in 1940 and then could have been employed by a war plant or PD somewhere in 1942. Good Luck, Ed #15
