Has anyone ever seen a pre war "357 Magnum" with REG in the yoke cut but NOT a registration #?

thanks,

No, but is it possible the frame was from a batch that was originally intended to be, and stamped with the "REG" letters, but eventually completed as a non REG gun?

No, but I have a non-registered magnum that according to Roy's letter was assigned a REG number but the program was cancelled before the gun shipped so the REG number was never stamped. He said that was the first time he had encountered that situation so I suspect there aren't many with just REG stamped either.

Is that your gun? Or just a photo of someone else's gun? It could be that someone photoshopped out the number, thinking they were making it more private to share...

Example...

Either way, I would love to see some more photos and learn a bit more about that gun.:)

More to RKmesa's questions, what's the serial number of the gun? The barrel serial number looks like 59103 or 69103 to me, neither one of which is in the NRM range.

60108, 1939 shipped and yes this is mine and no photo shop action here ! ;)

The revolver is refinished though which stings a bit

Based on the serial number (and the assembly number), the Magnum is a NRM with REG stamped in the yoke cut. Based on S&W's manufacturing practices, the existence of this revolver and probably a few more like it is not all that surprising. Like what was stated in post #5, S&W never through anything away they could use.
