I need an ejector 'star' for a pre-war .22 I frame. It should have a right hand thread for the ejector rod and recessed chambers. Anyone know where I might find one? No luck with Poppert's.
I'll post this in the classifieds as well.
Thx.

Finding one may be a challenge because the recessed .22 I-frame cylinders were produced only during the last few years of the 1930s. There cannot have been very many of them made, compared to the predecessor unrecessed variety. Good luck. You might inquire of Jack First in South Dakota or Dave Chicoine at Old West Gunsmith.

if the earlier unrecessed star fits the later cylinders (and I don't know why they wouldn't), you might find one of those more easily and then build it up with a rim-thickness layer of custom-cut steel; just spot weld it to the upper surface of the star. Or I suppose one could use the earlier star without building it up, which would leave about one third of each cartridge rim without side support to the interior. Not ideal, but probably not particularly risky either.

If this is a Kit Gun I have not inquired about before, would you be willing to PM me with the serial number for my data base? Many thanks.

Afterthought: I believe the postwar transitional .22/32 revolvers would have an ejector star you could use. I'm not sure if the cylinder assembly dimensions of the Model of 1953 Kit Gun stayed the same, but you might be able to use a star from one of those. I don't know but am assuming that the ejector rod threads on the Model of 1953 (Pre 34 or Pre 35) were the standard right-hand threads until 1960 or 1961, which is when they changed for the K and N frames. So you might be able to find a star from an early Model of 1953 and press it into service.

There is a heavy conjecture component to this post, so it's grain-of-salt time.

Hi David,

Thanks very much for your suggestions. This is actually for a custom build Model of 1953 that has been refinished. I want to install a pre war slender barrel with Patridge front sight and the larger ejector rod which I have to fit the notch in the barrel. The cylinder is the same as a pre-war. But every I/J frame from the late forties and the fifties that I have examined already has the left handed thread. I don't know about the post war transition kit gun but it has the new post war rod and is probably left hand thread as well. I'll try those two sources.
