I tried searching for the answer to no avail. How do I remove the rebound lever (actually a spring hammer block) which is in the side plate of a pre-war 38/44? Should I?
The only S&Ws that had a rebound lever were the earliest K-Frame revolvers. The .38-44 has a spring hammer block as walter o said. The hammer block is staked in the sideplate and should not be removed unless somehow it is broken and needs to be replaced.
Got the wrong part name off the 1917 schematic. In any case the answer is leave it alone. I didn't want a part flying across the room if it was removeable.
I recall working on one of the 1937 Brazilian 1917's. On that one, the hammer block was deactivated by a ramp on the back of the hand. If you don't have one of those special hands of the correct width, the answer was to either remove the extending parts or remove the entire widget.
