I have stippled backstraps for my full size which I really like (by a forum member). Last week I shot a friend's M&P that has the Dawson Precision grip tape on it that I really liked-but they're out of stock in black (have been for months) so I what do the rest of you use?

I don't want to permanently stipple the frame so looking for other options. The Dawson product seems ideal for me-I like the texture and the thinness of it. Thanks for your suggestions.

Probably going to get a whole lot of votes for Talon grips. They offer a granulate, which is like sandpaper, and a rubberized. After holding out for a while, I finally ordered a rubber set for my Shield, when they offered a $5.00 off deal a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to put them on yet, but they look like they'll do the job.

+2 on Talon.

My first set seemed to peel off prematurely, in my opinion.

I contacted CS and they sent me a code for another set for $10. Which was pretty nice of them, I thought.

Anyways the second set seems to be holding on well.

I'd make sure you were happy with the backstrap size before you put them on.

I have the rubberized Talons on my Shield and magazines. I really like the feel of them. With a couple thousand rounds through it there is no sign of wear or peeling. I just ordered a set for my M&P 9FS.

I don't own an M&P nor do I use grip tape, but I highly recommend Brooks Tactical AGrip. It is thin and has a suede like texture that grips even better when your hands are wet. It is difficult to cut, but I think they have one precut for M&P's. I have it on a GWACS CAV-15 grip and this Steyr M40. In both cases I had to buy a sheet of it and cut it to fit. You really have to have something sharp to trim it neatly. Exacto will work but something with more rigidity like a Havalon would work better. Only the sharpest scissors would cut it without leaving an ugly edge. I've never had a problem with it peeling up. It will stretch a little while applying so you have to have a plan. Some care and surface prep will lead to an excellent grip.

I put 3m grip tape on my SD9VE. I was impressed by the added grip that it gave.
Then I found a nice Pacmyre grip. I like it much more, it's not as aggressive to the hand, yet more comfortable to use.

I cut my own from skateboard/deck tape. Easy to get from hardware store. If you want a color other than black it's easy to find on line.

I take blue painters tape to define the area I want to cover with the skateboard tape. Take a pen and draw it out. Peel it off and cut to size..that is now your template. I prefer scissors, but a utility knife works too.

The advantage, IMO of making your own is you define the area you want to cover based on your needs and once you make a template, it's easy to cut another grip.

If you mess up, it's not a big deal. You can make a ton of grips from a roll.

Talon are super comfortable, but mine all peeled after serious use (even after I modified my install per customer support). The Pachymayr grip sleeve isn't the best either (it moves and can cause a reload malfunction as it tends to slip down and in between the grip and the magazine). The Brooks Tactical looks interesting ...

3M Outdoor Tread tape (sometimes called stair tape or ladder tape).

2" wide by 15' long. Cost $12.97 at Home Depot.

Great for flat or mostly flat surfaces, such as the front and back strap of auto pistols. Very good grip, lasts a long time (doesn't wear off), and is waterproof.

that looks hideous!

I chose stippling and don't regret it at all.
