my recent doctor of 2/1 half - 3 years most recently pulled up stakes & left town for the west coast . ! he was a young , smart guy and will be missed ! doctors in my small community are getting scarce and its not a good overall picture.
my clinic of doctors used to have 3 doctors & now its down to 1 , and tomarrow who knows ! we do have 2-3 nurses in the clinic who one can pick to continue to see . i picked one out i had a couple of calls with before .
i am dibetic , have a really bad back , both rotators are torn , for the 2nd time ! , and both knees are bone on done , also cronic kidney disease ........ ........ at 75 years of age . but i am forging on , and exercise daily . that is all enough but i guess it could be worse !!
as i was seeing my chosen my nurse last week , she was going over my perscriptions . one , my valium perspt. , she would not re-new ! i have had this script. for way over 20 years ! just one 5 mg. takes the edge at bedtime ....... i hate to lose it ! she explained that the head m d in the group she worked for , did not like to okay these scripts for this type of substance . feel like i am being punished for no reason !
they will hook me up to a be-haveureal clinic to be evaluwaited , if i wish , and they might re-write my script ! say what ?? !!
i realize times are changing but this whole thing plays out as smelling of bull !!
sorry about the long post i do mot get on hear much anymore hope you all are well ! suggestions ? !

Welcome to the fact that it is the Insurance Company determines what healthcare you will receive if you want them to pay for it. A while back I ran into a problem with my Insurance Company suddenly refusing to pay for the medicine my Doctor prescribed. Insurance copay was $5.00. Individual out-of-pocket was $1,000!

You've run into the current prohibition of meds deemed "dangerous and addictive". The government powers that be have decided any medications having opioid properties must be strictly regulated (You might be a drug addict or dealer!) Regardless of how stupid this sounds it is what is driving the failure to prescribe needed medications to people like you who obviously need them! Unfortunately sir, you are joining the many who are and will be living in pain with little to no relief.

Might consider signing up for the behavioral clinic. Given what appears to be (or has been) a nationwide ailment of overprescribed painkillers, the innocent get lumped in with the not so innocent.

Am on my third different dr in 5 yrs with retirements and drs. just moving on. Luckily am still seeing an interist doctor due to variety/seriousness of medical conditions. Unfortunately (or fortunately in some cases) many no longer get doctors for annuals or first step to treatment.

I'm on the same Doc for 8 years. He has a wife a 3 sons (oldest is 14)
. I pray for their health and well being often. I pray that as the boys grow older they find nice girls and have lots of children, so grandpa stays here and needs a job to pay for all the presents he'll spoil the grand kids with!

Breaking in a new Doc is such a pain! It's much easier to pray for the one you have!!

.Gov is gunning for doctors who over prescribe medicines as a result of the opioid crisis. Now it affects just about any prescription drug. Most would rather err on the side of caution. Patients suffer. :(
As for doctors, lately I've been seeing the Nurse Practitioner rather than the actual doctor that I've known for years. Nice ladies, smart and they know what they're doing. No complaints really. But sometimes, i really want to see the actual doctor.

I have not seen my Kidney Dr in three years. I see the nurse practitioner every 6 months and have no complaint. She is much better looking than he is:D, However I will get to see him next month as a bit of a problem showed up. OK another health problem at my age so what, I just add it to the list. My last two GPs were great but both retired and the one I have now is not like the old time family Drs. Sort of in take this pill and go away.

I've been on controlled pain prescription for about 8 years. Everything done by all 3 parties, me, doctor, and pharmacist have been going by the book even before they started loading up the heroin with dinosaur pills. I'm 66, i'm sorta responsible, and I'm not staggering around some busy traffic light with a cardboard sign.
I was in an ER waiting area with a kidney stone issue. I finally got to see the triage nurse and I told her the Percosets aren't even working. (Just that morning the doctor supposedly missed a tiny bit of stone). Darned Debbie Dogooder said Where'd you get those? I told her to call my (bad word) doctor! It's none of your (bad word) business! It's an inoperable back issue FYI.
Some of these people really hate to see people prescribed meds for some reason.

Ask them if there is any chance of major withdraw from taking the Valium away from you.

Seventeen century "Laudanum" is still available in prescription form, as it "Tramadol", which is a non opioid version of Laudanum for those that are allergic to opiate based medications…

I take the mostly useless tramadol, and it's okay for what it does work for, but okay is probably being generous. Feels more like a placebo. To the op, once they take away what works, it'll be nearly impossible to get the old medicine back again. I've seen it happen before. The best thing is to insist that they keep prescribing what works for you. At your age, so what about addiction? I can guarantee you that tramadol is no substitute for valium. It's possible that the nurse can't prescribe an opiate by law. Find out if that's the case, and address that. Because it's a one way bargain, and you can't go back without problems, it's certainly not just a case of "well I guess that didn't work, so we'll just go back to what we were doing". Good luck, and stay well!
