Presentation box: Inner lining material?

I bought a beautiful Model 57 yesterday, in outstanding condition. The presentation case accompanying the pistol had green cloth in place of the normal blue. The seller told me that the blue material was torn, so he replaced it with the green stuff.

Please tell me how I can replace the blue material. What type of
cloth comes closest to the original?

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Depends. . . .the first year or two 57s had blue velour lining in the presentation cases. Probably the nicest cases S&W offered. There are some recent threads about them which you can probably find using the "search" button at the top of the page. If yours isn't one of the early ones then they came with the blue flocked version, at least my N serial numbered 4 inch did with the usual deterioration. There is a member here who does a really great job at reasonable cost in restoring these cases; his handle here is jcelect if you want to check with him. He certainly knows more about restoring S&W cases than anyone else I know. Good luck.

You can get foam that you can then cut to fit your gun and then put whatever cloth you want on it. I got mine from Amazon.

+1. My brand spankin' new 1979 Model 57 came with the presentation case that had the blue flocked interior. Joe (jcelect) refurbished it for me several years ago...he does great work and is very reasonable with his prices.

Being the cheapskate penny-pincher that I am, I relined one of mine with a piece of stretch velvet sourced from Amazon...I didn't want to buy a 30 yard bolt of it in a proper color, so I bought a two yard remnant in gray for $6...I think it turned out nice, and I have enough left over for 4 or 5 more cases......Ben
