Really enjoying my new-to-me 57, N prefix.

Can someone explain the model 29, 57 (other N frames?) presentation cases. with cleaning rod. I'd like to know the proper box my 57 was shipped in. Were the presentation cases sold as accessories by S&W or shipped that way? Are there different types of 'real' cases? It looks like some are hand made.

Would be nice to put my 57 in a case, if it was common for that model/period.

As always, the info is appreciated!

I can tell you what the correct case and accessories are for your Model 57 if you tell me its serial number (N333XXX for example).

Mark...Your Model 57 was most likely shipped in 1979 in the style of presentation case shown below. The accessories are a sight screwdriver with a fluted aluminum handle and hollow ground tip, aluminum cleaning rod, copper bristled brush with aluminum threads, and a cotton swab with aluminum threads.

Thought I might tag a question onto this thread instead of creating another one.

I just picked up this Model 57 that is a S serial. It's serial number S241497. It's a 6 inch with Coke target grips. The box interior is a bit different from what I've normally seen. Seems to be dark blue velvet. Outside of the box is a bit rough with a few gouges, dents and dings.

Is this box correct for my revolver? What tools should be included as there are spots for them but they didn't come with the package. Any leads on where I can find a set or look for them? Not seeing anything in the classifieds.

bwdilli.

I am fairly confident that the presentation case in your picture is the correct case for a first or second year model 57. My son has an "S" prefix model 57, so I did some research for him regarding the correct presentation case for that particular gun. I was told that the model 57 presentation cases have a dark blue or purple colored velvet lining. Apparently those cases are extremely rare, and when available, bring substantial amounts of money when they are available for sale. Hopefully a more knowledgable member will be able more specific information.

If you Google S&W presentation cases, you'll find a few names of people that restore or custom make these. ...may have a source for parts?

If anyone finds more info on the boxes, could they please post? Thanks and good luck to you both.

bwdilli...The presentation case with a dark blue velour lining is correct for your Model 57. This style of case was used for the first year plus of production for this model only before the clamshell style of case was introduced. These cases are fairly rare and highly sought after by collectors. Below is a photo that shows the correct accessories for your Model 57.

Mark...the correct case for your Model 57 is offered for sale on this forum and on ebay. The case will need to be restored by forum member, jcelect, as the material used to cover the inserts in the case deteriorated quite rapidly.

Nice Model 57, yours is a very early one; I have 241520 and the fitting and bluing is spectacular.

Thanks for the information! Couldn't have asked for better news.

Since 41 mag is .410 and 44 mag is .429, should I be looking for a 41 mag kit or would a 44 mag kit work also?
