Hope I'm in the right section here. Back in the early 80's I bought a new 29-2 in 6" and an option was to get it in a wooden presentation case which I did. The inside has a blue velvet material over molded foam and also a brush and cleaning swab. Over the years the material has deteriorated badly and is breaking up. Has anyone ever tried to replace this material?

Not in a gun case, but a case.

The material was similar to auto headliner, with a foam backing.

Only cure I know is scrape it all off and start over.

Hey Vettepartz
The type liner you described I reflock the bottom liner and the top liner I recover with cloth!

This is what the case looks like after I'm done. Email me for a price!
OOPS ! Sorry that the wrong pic! The above is a different type liner that is reflocked also

This is a styro foam bottom that has been reflocked!

i reflock them myself with a kit purchased online. i doubt anyone can do a nicer job than the forum member above.

jcelect, very nice job!! I also redo my pres cases, and they turn out beautiful, for what they cost now days it pays to rebuild them.

Nice work!.....2 questions: 1-is this recovering mat'l. specifically made for gun case use?, 2- any ideas on the re-securing the case hinges? I'm thinking on removing the brass nails and replacing w/nuts&bolts; hard to find them little bitty ones, tho'. gr

Those are very nice rebuilds by jcelect, indeed. That brings up two questions:
1. Where do you find the rebuild kits online
2. Just how much are these worth when selling a gun

I also have one for my C**T Python

I use a blue felt that I buy from JoAnn fabrics (I bring my wife

) and I use elmers spray craft glue, it forms very well with no wrinkles, but if your not comfortable doing it youself, many people here will do it for you, as for the value, I have bought them for $50 and they need refinishing, but normally $100 and up. I paid $150 for a mint unused pres. box for a 5" 27. It's hard to believe that in 1968 it was a $11 option for the box.

Here's another thumbs up for forum member jcelect.
First class work and a first class guy!

My only concern is the affect that glue might have on a gun's finish. Ideas/experience?

jcelect did one for me almost two years ago and is still wonderful
There is no glue residue that leaches thru the blue covering. It has not affected my nickel finish at all. (nor do I think it ever will)

Here's a photo of my first attempt, in process, to do the case for my 25-5. Got the royal blue crushed velvet scrap from JoAnn fabrics for $2.40 with lots left over. Did the foam, not styro, top two days ago. Has the hard plastic with styro supports underneath bottom as shown and a bullet slot with cover instead of the tools. I'll post a photo of the finished piece as soon as I get it done.

Ok, all done and I don't think it came out too bad for my first attempt. Also I'm not trying to compete with our resident fixer or go into business on my own.

And yes, I am a Floyd fan.

, the top photo is natural light and shows the blue better than the others with flash. All pimped out!

I got my two sets of liners back from jcelect and would like to say that he did a fantastic job. They look like they did when they were brand new. Now to re-finish the outside wood part. I understand that the guns should not be stored in them for long periods of time, but rather just used for 'presentation purposes'.

Hey Vettepartz
Tung Oil by MinWax! A light sanding with fine paper to remove any/all scratches then apply a very thin coat of the Tung Oil. I use a cotton ball(stolen from the wife) to apply the oil. 1/2 cap full will do the case just fine. Leave it dry 24 hrs and if you are not satified, do it over!
