I was a little surprised when I looked in Section 1 of the 5th Ed. for descriptions of the blue/black pebble grain cases that S&W used to ship with their early .44 Magnums (pre-1960) and couldn't find anything. No reference to them- just the mahogany presentation cases. Apparently Jim and Richard decided to just copy the 4th Ed. and include those case descriptions under the "44 Magnum". That's OK, I just thought that they might lump all the boxes and cases together in the same section. I also thought that the early .41 Magnum Model 57s had some special cases, but couldn't find any references to them.

No big deal...there is so much information available regarding all of the S&W models, accessories, etc. that it must be almost impossible to capture it all. That's why we're so fortunate to have this Forum with all of its extremely knowledgeable members!

This is the case liners used for the first mod 57s. It has been said it was used for the first-year of production, however from my database it appears to have been used for about the first 6 months of production. The covering is a blue Velour cloth over a high-density foam rubber bottom liner.
