Price advice

I was outbid on a couple lot's of guns yest. I am proud of myself, because I picked an dollar amount and said I would not bid over and for once, I stuck to my amount..

This first lot was 3 smiths.. A 39-2, 17-3, and Model 36. All info I have was that the guns looked clean and no rust..

The second lot i REALLY wanted.. It was a clean looking 29-2

So, what do you think would have been the absolute top $$ to bid on each lot ? The only other cost was the FFL transfer and a small % for using credit card

Obviously the top dollar is what they sold at. You can compare GunBroker and other auction houses to see what similar firearms are trading at value.

It seems to be a volatile market with some firearms increasing in value and some going down in value. If I were going to place a bid as you did, I would of referred to those sources prior to bidding. Then as you stated, considered buyer's premiums, sales tax if applicable, shipping cost if applicable and FFL cost if applicable.

Then there is the bottom line as to what they are worth to you as an individual.

I have been to a a few live auctions, and from what I have seen people in general loose their minds. I picked this particular gun up at a one where people were paying above retail for new stuff and there were some very nice early Colt 1911's that went for big money. Amongst all of those was this one in a ratty shadow box frame I didn't even know what it was at the time as the only side visible said Colt 38 Rimless Smokeless. When it came up only one other person bid against me and he dropped out at $250 my max was going to be $300. When I picked it up my total was $290. When I got it home and started looking through my gun book my teeth about fell out I had a Colt 1900 Automatic only about 5000 made. I say all of this to illustrate why you should do your homework and it never hurts to have a little luck either. One other thing keep your emotions in check.

Well, the 39-2 , 17-3,and 36 sold together for $1,300

The 29-2 sold for $670.

I had looked at recent completed sales, and prices were all over the place..

The price on the M29-2 was not bad at all, based on what I can see from the picture. The Football Targets have to be worth about a hundred and the holster maybe fifty. If the starter pistol is worth twenty, the buyer got the revolver for $500.

Those were bargains IMO....

I was thinking the 3 sold right on target. I would guess $400 for the 39, $500 for the Model 17 and about $400 for the Model 36 would be good prices.

I would not have been surprised at $500 for the 39, $650-$700 for the 17-3, and $500+ for the nickle 36. Whoever got them for the prices listed got a bargain.
