Have an opportunity to buy a 19-4 4" blued. Condition is about perfect has the light color grain less goncalo target grips, matching box and a few papers, no manual or tools. Seller says its a 1977 gun but pics show speed loader cut out targets. Checking the serial # 61K3xxx it appears to be a 1980 manufacture, not that in my eyes a 1977 vs 1980 makes any difference. Waiting on the seller to come up with a price. Im not up for paying any more than $600. I bought a similar 19-3 at a lgs last year, gun only for $450.

An M19-4 is P&R which most of us find very desirable.

I'm with you on the max price, but I have seen much worse condition M19s sell at my LGS for $550, and that was a couple of years ago. I haven't seen one in a while and can only guess they would be priced higher today.

You may want to be a little more flexible for one that is about perfect.

Pictures would help give a better idea but as you describe it the $600 limit you set is probably about right, maybe even a fairly decent deal. The $450 you paid a year ago, if the gun was in excellent condition, was a very good deal for you.

Serial number dates the revolver you are looking at to about 1980.
19-4 produced 1977-1982.
Pinned barrel and recessed cylinder discontinued 1982.

Your $450 perfect 19-3 purchase a year ago borders upon exceptional -- even without box, tools and docs -- if it's truly perfect, meaning virtually flawless mechanically and cosmetically. Far from a measure of the average.

A similarly perfect 19-4 with the original box you might get for $600, but the seller could easily Gunbroker it and get more in this market, and if premium dealer were selling they could get more still.

Point is, if you get it for $600 you got a deal; if you really want it, be prepared to go higher.

Jim, if it's any help I recently paid $525.00 for an M 19-4 in good condition, say a 9.3 out of 10. The one you are looking at sounds as if it may be in a little better condition.

Best of luck, and keep us posted.

$650 would be a reasonable top end. Don't go higher.

If you can get it for $550 - GRAVY!!!!

I think $600 is the top end myself. I recently considered a nickel M19 in wonderful shape but I was not prepared to exceed $500. The seller might get more; he's still trying to, which is fine.

Since I have a 2.5" M19 my once upon a time overwhelming desire to have one to replace the one I blew up many years ago was satisfied. Having a 4" M27 curbed the passion, too. So, yes, if I REALLY wanted it and it was pristine I might go for $600 these days. Tops.

OTOH, I had no qualms about spending hundreds more for a 25-5 4" but THAT was a grail gun for me. Makes a big difference.

I have sold a few N frames and have been picking
up 19's.
The two on the left are 4 screw's 1958 and 1959.
The two nickel are dash 4's. The 4 inch is near flawless.
My cost average is around 550.00
I have one dash 4 2.5 inch showing Thursday.
$600.00 is doable for a nice 19.
They made about a jillion but for good reason.
