I looked at a Model 19-2 today at my LGS. It appears, at least to my eyes, unfired. It had a very faint turn line, locks up vault tight and seems mechanically perfect. It had absolutely no blue wear or any handling marks. I’m not sure the stocks originally came on the gun. They’re Smith & Wesson smooth wood grips (combat grips?). There’s no box etc just the gun. Asking price is $1099. Is this reasonable? What say you? Thanks in advance.

Depends on the barrel length and the smooth presentation stocks,
If it's a 19-2 snub it's a deal,
If it's a 4" or 6" with early 60's SW GA or Rosewood presentation stocks with deep ss escutcheons those are worth about $250 if in high condition.
If they are the light colored 70's "palate wood" stocks meh.
If it had original nice diamond target stocks those would also be a nice bonus.

I forgot the barrel length. It’s a 4”. I appreciate all the help.

I don't see -2s very often where I shop and don't have one. The most recent edition of the Standard Catalog says the -2 has a 50% premium in high condition. I haven't seen one sell recently, maybe ever, so don't know how realistic that premium estimate is based on the estimate of $900 for one in excellent condition. If it was a 3 or 5 or 2.5 inch I'd guess a -2 for $1k would be a bargain, and perhaps so for a 4 or 6 as well. Good luck.

I dont have a new SCSW,
Not sure if understand what that means that a -2 gets a 50% premium in high condition .....over what ?
If they are saying 50% over one in poor condition then ok.
If they are saying it gets a 50% premium over aa dash 3 I would not agree.
If they mean over a dash 5 , maybe.

That does seem a little high. On GI there is a very fine 2 1/2" with stag for $885 and a 4" that is not mint for $700. Make an offer of $800 and see where it goes from there. You can point out non original grips as a bargaining point maybe.

I just won a blue 6" 19-3 3T on GB for $600, so I would say keep looking since it also is without the original box & papers.

The Standard Catalog says 50% premium over the prices they show for the average 19 which is estimated to be $900 in excellent condition. It doesn't detail the difference for barrel length by dash number so some interpolation is needed. As I interpret it a 4 inch -2 in excellent condition (say 98% or better) would be worth about $1300. Based on that a six inch perhaps a little less and the 2.5 and other unusual barrel lengths, more, a lot more for 3 and 5 inch.

A pre-19 in excellent condition is listed at $2500. A no dash at 50% premium in higher grades. A nickel no dash and -1s are at double ($1800).

Definately depends on the stocks,
I'd bet they aren't original to that gun as the majority had checkered diamond targets,
The big question is are they early ones in high condition worth $250-$300 or later ones in soso condition worth $50.

The 19-2's were early to mid 60's era guns and the first 3 screw frames but are connected to the older ones by their diamond target stocks, pinned front sites, large ampersand rollstamps, all features that are gone by 1970.
If you can post pics of the stocks would help determine value otherwise I'd assume the stocks are the later ones, if so you'd need to buy a pair of nice diamond targets at abt $200 to make it a $900-$1K ish gun IMO.

Typically smooth target stocks came in a bubble pack. Still those would be worth $150 on their own. Figure the OEM stocks being missing would be a deficit. I figure the whole revolver around $1200 out the door.

Edit - so maybe offer the guy $1100 out the door and see what happens? I think you will own that revolver.

Why would he offer more than asking? The gun is $1099.

Another note, I wish I could find $700-$750 19-2s…my bank account doesn’t…but I do.

For $1000.00 I would need the full package, box, tools and paperwork. That's about what I paid for my last two 19-2 with package. Pictures would help but I would say it is a $800 revolver as it stands. IMHO I think the dash 2 has a nicer blue finish that the dash 3 or 4's .

I’ve got a 4” no dash 19 in about 95%+ condition with original diamond grips and it’s a 3T as well and I figure it’s probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,200 to $1,500, and maybe more. I would think that what you are looking at, if it’s in great shape with the original grips, is a $900 to $1,000 gun all day long.

I’ve also got a 19–6 in about 98% condition as well. It’s a snubnose and wood combat grips… early gun, so no MIM parts. I paid $590 for it about three years ago, which was a steal, and I wouldn’t take any less than $900 for it now. It’s not for sale…
