Saw one today at the local shop. $535 out the door. Looked 90-95%. 3T's. No box or goodies.

At first I thought it was a steal. Then I did a little looking on gun broker and that seems to be the current going rate. Weren't these $700 guns 6 or 9 months ago?

Did I screw up by walking past it?

Well you better be at the shop when they open to snag that one up, if it isn't gone already! It's been many years since they have been that price.

That is what I thought as well, but if you look at recent closed auctions on gunbroker, most 27-2s are selling in the $5-600 range. There are plenty listed in the $800-1000 range that get relisted week after week, but they don't appear to be selling at that price any more.

I will probably stop by today and pick it up (if it is still there), but my point was that in these economic times, the price of the classic's seem to be dropping.

check the barrel lengths. I bet these are 6', or 83/8 ". The 3.5's 4's and 5's are still abit pricey specially the 3.5's. I know cause I've been looking for a good nickle 3.5 for a dogs age. I missed out on one last September that went for $805-someone sniped it out from under me while I was hunkered down riding out Gustave. Got the power back on and damn if it was gone-p!ssed me off cause I would have gone higher as it was a mint gun.

The 3-½" barrel brings a substantial premium. Based on your description, I have no idea what that gun looks like, but it sounds cheap enough. If 10% of the nickel is gone, that's a ratty gun. It's probably still worth $500. If the finish is all there and it just has some surface scratches and a turn line, you'd be amazed what a little Flitz will do. Without the PC, a high condition gun will still bring around $800-$900.

Check out these completed auctions. Only one is nickel, but... You may have screwed up.

This has been my experience as well. I've got all the other barrel lengths in nickle, but whenever an opportunity strikes for the 3.5 incher, the price has been in excess of what I was willing to part with. I definitely would have pulled the trigger at $ 535 OTD assuming s&wchad's caveat on condition.

I've been away for awhile so couldn't resist. Nickle 3.5" 27-2 that someone put Coke grips on.

I purchased the 3 1/2" nickel 27-2 that was shown in the FIRST LISTING on S&Wchad's post. The gun was much nicer than the picture, had TT and TH, RR and WO, and came with a wooden presentation case. I realize that occasionally one could be found for a few dollars less, but I have no regrets. The selling price and shipping totaled $920, but that is considerably less than the retail price of the most recently produced model that has the internal lock. I much prefer the one I purchased to the new gun I saw at a major outfitter's store last November. That one was priced $1,395.

colt python, diamondback, pre 64 winchesters, belgium brownings, sought after s&w's,etc. the economy will have to take a much worse beating before you buy any of this stuff cheap.

While were on topic of 27's I was at the local range today and noticed a blued 27-2 3.5" with what looked like considerable holster wear. Was priced at 449.00 (+tax im sure) just wondering if this is high low average?

Chad is right 90% is pretty trashed. If you are like me its just gonna make ya want a nice one. If it shoots well and and you can live with the condition its a fair deal. Since I got a pre 27 5 screw 3.5", thats all I want now. I am constantly looking. The -2 doesnt even feel like the same gun to me. Sorry hope this helps.

Depending on condition, that's an excellent price. It would have to be pretty beat to be worth less.

OK, so maybe my 90% was a little low. It looked like it would have cleaned up pretty well (the nickel), the grips needed to be redone or replaced, and the target hammer and trigger had been polished and "jeweled". You could still see the case color on the back of the trigger and on the bottom on the hammer. So those would have needed those replaced as well.

Of course it was gone when I went back...

It has been my experience that a good number of 27's and 28's end up as "coffee table guns." They looked almost too good to shoot, and many of them never were. I have seen a few here in Maine in the past year in like new condition for $500 to $600.
