I'm a couple hundred miles from home, so I don't have my usual reference books handy... could use some info:

A local GS in Marshfield WI area has an S&W Model 1917, original wood grips & lanyard ring, in .45 ACP caliber. Blued, finish shows wear mostly on barrel left side... finish is maybe 60% intact. No apparent rust or pitting, action seems okay, lockup okay, no cylinder shake. Has an older leather holster, but I doubt holster is original. On consignment, the shop is asking $950. I failed to record the S/N... dumb, I know!

Is that asking price anywhere in the ball park? Or is it way out of line? I was going to counter at $500 or $550 and see how they responded, but figured it would be better to get some more info here.

ETA: I know for sure it is not a later-date Brazilian version.

$950 strikes me as too much for the condition you describe, but perhaps we would not agree on the figure of 60% finish. The gun I see in my mind's eye would be fairly priced at $600 or so. If the finish is closer to 85-90%, I might consider $750-800. The prices on these have been rising in recent years.

Does it look to be in this kind of condition?

There is a commercial 1917 for sale in a shop here with 90% of its original finish and they want $1000 for it.

For what it's worth, I have seen a Brazilian contract 1917 at a gun show in Pa. with an asking price of $1000 or $1100.

There is a pawn shop in Ocala, FL that has two of them if anyone is interested. One is pretty worn, I would say 70% blue for $850, the other one is closer to 85-90% and I think they had it for $1000

Seemed too much. I didnt even ask to look at them, so I dont know if they are commercials, brazils or U.S. property marked ones.

Around here, they dont come around too often, so I was kind of shocked to see TWO of them in one store. But still, wasnt in the cards for me. If anyone wants particulars on this store, PM me...
