I know someone selling a model 13, 3" barrel. I didn't ask the series, but he said it was made in 1979. He describes it at 98% and is asking $550 for it. It does not have the box. Should I buy or pass? I was thinking more like $400.

Does it have the factory wood grips of after markets??

You are thinking right. $400 is a good price for it.

$450 to $500 would be a price more commonly seen around the Portland area - IF you can find one with a 98% finish. Good Luck,

Jerry

M-13's are expensive, always have been in my area and several other southern states. The 3" guns are primo.

Most we've found are around $450, and that's 4 inchers with holster wear.

The wife and I scored this 13-1 for $300, but it's out of time, not unusual for a gun designed for shooters:

I'd check the timing of this gun. If it's real good, I'd go $400. If not, there are a lot of other Smiths just as good, i.e., police turn-in Model 65s, or maybe a 2-3/4 barrel Model 19.

Model 13s are great guns, but if the previous owner shot a lot of .357 mags out of it, it may be worn out.

I think I would buy at that price. If it's from '79, it's P&R, which are desireable features. You don't mention if it's square butt or round butt. Either is valuable in its own way, SB for its rarity and RB for its carry-ability. (At least I've heard SB 3" M13s are scarce, someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

The $400 to $500 range is correct (in my area at least) for the 4" barrelled M13. The 3" barrel commands a premium, so I would go $550 for one that is 98%.

Hi,

I will be picking up my M13-2 4 inch this weekend. I paid $545 out the door in California. Has been used very little and no holster wear. In California M13 are rare compared to M19. Don't know why but the M13 is hard to find. I have been waiting some time to get this one. I will post pictures. I would buy the one your considering.

Good luck,

Yep, I paid $500 for my minty blue 13-3, 3" with Factory Combat Stocks. Don't see for sell in California ever. If you want it, buy it!
good luck

At the lastSeattle gun show a table had several 3" model 13's RB blue. I did a double take until I saw they were not P&R and all had bobbed hammers. Probably LE turn-ins(holster wear) Checked back later and ALL were gone at $425. ANY 95%+3" P&R model 13 will bring $500 easy around here but they are VERY hard to find. Nickel? just about impossible. I envy those LOW prices stated on this forum coming from the midwest and the rural eastcoast.

I have always admired the blued, 3 inch, round butt Model 13...I believe that was the old FBI carry gun...plus, the one you're looking at has the pinned barrel & recessed chambers...if it's 98%, I would definitely go $500...(if it's a private sale offer $450 first, or $400 if you're really bold)
