I found a trr8 at my local shop. Its in 90% condition, one owner (the shop sold it to the original owner) and the shop supossedly sent it in to s&w to have it looked over before they put it on sale...everything was good to go. They are asking $950. I thought it was a decent price considering the inventory. I'm not sure how much I would really save with a "good price". Can anyone help me out with a price check?
Thanks in advance. Oh I'm in California if that helps at all.

In California that sounds CHEAP

Who knows how long it will take for all S&Ws to dry there up now that S&W has announced they will not comply with the CA microstamping law.

For the free States of the Union, it still is not a bad price.

Hi Colt,

Thanks for the response. Yup. This whole microstamping and DOJ approved list is causing a lot of trouble here in California. I was going to try and trade my model 41 at the dealer, but they wouldn't take it as it is no longer on the approved list.

Was it the common all black TRR8 or one of the rare Pintos with the polished barrel flats and flash chromed controls?

Nice pic! The one at the shop is the plain Jane standard all black. But I think its now a moot point as they just brought in a new 627 pro series for the same price!

Personally, I would still buy the TRR8.

A Pro series is not a Performance Center firearm. It is a production gun that as a few PC features.

The TRR8s tensioned barrel will make it more accurate than the 627 Pro. The TRR8s scandium construction will reduce weight be about 10 ounces over the 627 Pro even though the 627 has a one inch shorter barrel. This makes the TRR8 a great holster gun for hiking or trails, etc.

While both get the PC spring set, the TRR8 has more hand fitting and polishing in the action

Get whatever floats your boat. I have both and like them. Obviously they have very different features. Colt SAA hit the highlights and I agree the TRR8 is more accurate, easier to shoot, and more versatile.
I think the price of the TRR8 is reasonable in CA if its not too dinged up.

I have had no problems at all with my TRR8. It is very easy to shoot accurately with it.

Here is a link to a person with a similar question as you: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/352759-627-4-vs-327-trr8.html

There was a couple threads on this forum which finally died about a month ago about some occasional FTF issues with some R8's. What I took away from those discussions was it seemed there was a specific run of R8's in 2013 in which some knucklehead at the Smith factory supplied the R8's with the wrong size firing pin. While the R8 is similar to the TRR8, they are different enough that I assume they are assembled at the factory at different times. So I have not heard of TRR8's with this problem.
