Am I missing something about the cost of used pistols?

I have two 1.0 Shields, and want to sell one. I have up it for sale locally due to new shipping regs by UPS and FedEx. So now it must be shipped FFL to FFL. I can't see anyone paying for shipping on a shileld.

Locally for sale at $275.00 plus the transfer fee. Do I have it priced to high?
It come with original box. The previous owner replaced the factory sights with night sights and I added a Hogue HandAll grip. At the asking price I am breaking even on it.

Sold mine at a Tampa Gun Show to a dealer for $250. Night sights and 4 mags, 2 8 and 2 7 rounders. Original box and all accessories. Wanted more but was OK with the deal> I bought it new and just did not like shooting it. Probably had 200 rounds or less thru it. This was first of this year so hope this gives you some idea. If I had time and wanted to spend the effort might have gotten another $100 out of it to a private buyer but then having to deal with the ffl and all just wasn't worth it.

What new shipping regs are you referring to with UPS and FedEx? I have not heard of any change. Just that firearms must go by very expensive overnight services that now cost nearly $100 for even a light package going a short distance. Been that way for many years. Big shippers can often get away with (or have special deals) where they can use cheaper services.

No new requirement that makes it so only FFLs can ship that I know of. Can you cite the new regs?

Your price seems OK to me, but I agree that shipping and a transfer fee on both sides will make it very hard to sell to a distant buyer. I have a Beretta 21A pistol for sale for a couple of months at a good price, but no luck with a local buyer and shipping plus fees make it impossible to sell out of state.

I saw a Shield plus on sale for $400. But, you have to pay the $30 shipping plus $20 transfer fee. So, the total would be $450 plus tax which I have seen locally on sale.

Sold mine to my local pizza guy for $200 plus a free meal. One mag, no box, FTF. Paid $225 for it.

Thanks guys. I guess the people in my neck of the woods are just cheap

When I was in California guns like the shield apprehended in value. Never saw the value go down. To bad you can't sell it there.

I just sold my gen 1 shield an extra mag for $375... Had people beating down my door for it. Local shops sell the gen 2s for $540, so not shocking that boomers who only buy in person would see that as a deal

@Ron_In_MD I stand corrected regarding FedEx. Apparently they went full stupid in September and now won't ship firearms for the unwashed massed.

Nothing changed regarding UPS, though. Just costs a fortune for handguns.

Correct on UPS, no changes yet anyway.

I'm in the Kansas City, Missouri area, and a Shield with night sights priced at $275.00 would be sold in a matter of minutes here. Most of the used handguns I see for sale on local trader boards here are having no trouble selling at or near the price of new guns. A Shield with night sights in good condition likely would have no trouble moving at $375.00-$400.00 here, and a price tags of $350.00 or so would ensure a quick sale.

I suspect that a lot of guns are being sold to prohibited people around here as there really isn't any other logical reason as to why so many people are willing to pay as much for a used pistol as they could get a brand new one for. I understand wanting to have a few guns around that are "off the books" so to speak, and private party sales with no paperwork involved are perfectly legal here (as they should be). Still, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me why someone would pay new prices for used guns unless they can't pass the 4473 check to buy new.

Some of you guys should count yourselves as fortunate to be in areas where pistols can be found at such low prices.

Apparently many of you guys are not familiar with SMG - Ship My Gun which is a business owned and operated by Bud's Gun Shop. They offer the volume discount available to them which in turn gives them a better shipping rate with UPS. I have shipped handguns and long guns across country for rates not seen in years…
