I was at a pawn shop and found a stainless 4" 686 that had no rear sight but had a scope mount and a leupold red dot scope on it. It is not a high quality Leupold. It is a cheaper one. The asking price was $550. I am not interested in the red dot and will probablt take it off and order a new rear sight. Am I an idiot for not buying this?

Is the 686 factory drilled and tapped? I recently turned down an otherwise nice M17 that had been drilled and tapped with a scope added. Also the gun had no rear sight. That's two strikes.

look at gunbroker to see what 4" 686's are bringing. That rear sight might not be cheap to buy.

id offer them $500 just to see what they say i don't think $550 is a bad deal but not really a great one

I wouldn't give over $400 for one that was missing the rear sight. There are plenty of them around, and at least here in my area, they are going for $500 or less with everything intact on them, no lock/mim, used ones.

I picked up this one on Tuesday for about $300. I'm very happy.

I did have a few issues, but that's another story.:o
