I have a Smith 610 that I paid 700 bucks for a few years ago. I was just on Gunbroker and they are on there for much more. Have they really appreciated that much?
M4 - both your front and rear sights are aftermarket add on's. I have the same set up on my 5" 610, and like it very much.
Yes they sure have jumped in price. I seem to recall seeing one in the classifieds recently for over $1200. I shoot 40's in mine for ICORE, so they get loaded way down to a 125 power factor. They are an absolute joy to shoot.
I see the prices too...and it makes me think people are crazy haha. I have actually not seen anyone in person give 1000+ for one...but they are certainly asking that for them...and possible "apparently" selling some on GB for that much...who knows how straight that kinda stuff is tho...
I paid 700 for mine a couple of years ago. Prices are just silly for them now. I see lock models over 1k, pre lock models sell for 1200-1400. I got lucky and just found a used 610 3" lew horton for $925 shipped.
10mm has always had a cult like following...and now more and more people are seeing this cartridges merits...I'm not lucky enough to have a 310 or a 610 ...I do have a Glock 20 though..and I really enjoy this cartridge's versatility...
I also have a 3" 610 unfortunately with the lock. I couln't get myself to pay the popularity tariff on the lockless models. Still happy with it. It has a slick action and is a pleasure to shoot. I got a good deal on this one and took it since the lockless ones were about $400 more.

Well what you have to remember is that it can fire both the widely available .40 smith and wesson and the 10mm, Something that most 10mm pistols can not do without a special aftermarket barrel for the .40 smith and wesson cartridge, atleast not without some sort of barrel insert as otherwise you risk damaging the barrel overtime.
So its kind of the ideal gateway into the 10mm users group or it could strictly be a .40 SW only gun based on the users preference, hence the rising prices probably and the .40 aint no slouch to begin with as after reading Keith's six guns both literally just seem like the modernised equavalent of the .38-40 or the 44 - 40 Winchester cartridges to the .40 SW and 10mm respectively.
both of which were listed as the goto ones when it came to stopping power if you didnt want to screw around with the ammo to try and get the ideal load from the smaller cartridges like the 9mm or the .38 special.
To me, the S&W 610 is simply an odd duck that brings a smile to my face whenever I shoot mine. I have no real use for this revolver as a Glock 20 provides more ammo per pound (these guns DO get heavy ). However, it NEVER fails to bring a smile to my face whenever I shoot one. Mine's the original with no Internal Lock and the 6.5 inch barrel. It's a monster and the most powerful handgun I own. There's just something about this revolver that will make it stay in my collection.
I purchased a 6 1/2" with lock a little over 3 years ago for $600. It's my favorite pin gun. It's accurate and the weight tames the muzzle flip so follow up shots are quick. The pins do a back-flip off the table if I do my part. Dispatches pins with much more authority than 45 ACP or most anything else except for 44 mag. My handloads crono right at 1350 FPS with a 180 gr. Montana Gold flatpoint. Longshot is the powder that makes the 10 come alive.
