Proof that there is a small but somewhat significant interest in this caliber is the rapid rise in the market price of the small number of Model 16-4 revolvers, many of which are having their “value reduced” by being modified by reaming to 327 FM. If the clamor becomes loud enough, perhaps S&W folks will recognize this significant niche market and produce a Model 16-5 in the current run of no IL revolvers to satisfy the demand. One can only hope!

Thanks Green Frog, great explanation of the 327 Saga. For those of us who are enamored by the caliber, our hopes are likely slim.
Maybe a stupid question, but I was taught those were only the ones not asked. Is there evidence that the value of a 16-4 diminishes by reaming it to accept the 327? I’m far from an expert on anything S&W related, but it seems to this old boy that it would only enhance the value. But then again my love (maybe too strong a word) of the caliber certainly skews my opinion.
BTW I do remember your 616 project well and enjoyed the read. Weren’t you signing as “Froggie” then?
